Cruise excursions or booking there?

Any suggestions on whether to book thru the cruiseline or to book right from Grand Cayman? Not sure exactly what we want to do yet, but the stingrays sound neat. I have heard, tho, that the stingray excursions are usually packed with people. Suggestions?

Start by deciding what you want to do before you get to the island so you can do some research. Arriving there with no plan isn't the best way to use the short time you have on the island.

Keep in mind that the ship's excursions are usually more $ than what you can arrange for yourself. They are often more crowded as well. The benefit of going thru the ship is it is more convenient and the ship will wait for you if you are late (which isn't very likely, but is possible).

The majority of people who read this message board probably make reservations with private operations to do Stingray City. I'm guessing that they make reservations in advance. Pretty much all the tour operators on Grand Cayman will refund your deposit if your ship doesn't stop there for whatever reason, usually weather related.

If you just want to site see, hire a taxi for a couple of hours.

If you just want to snorkel, you can do that from shore at Eden Rock located a block or or so to the right of where the tenders dock. Snorkeling there is free and gear rental available from either of the 2 dive shops located there.
