Destiny review

We had flown on 8/21 to FLL from Hartford CT. Much cheaper to fly into FLL than Miami. We rented a van since there was 5 of us and it was cheap. Stayed at the Springhill Suites in Miami. Not the best location by all means. It was ok but would not stay there if it was more than one night. Nothing in the area. Went to South Beach in the evening so the kids can check it out. Following morning returned our car to the airport. Dollar rental car did provide a free shuttle but it started at noon and I wanted to get to the port earlier. 24.00 for a cab ride to the port from Miami airport.

 

 

I knew something was up when it was 12:30 and were still waiting to get on board. Check in was so quick but then the wait began. I figured it was because they were changing the ports due to the Hurricane. Bingo, I was correct. As soon as they made the announcement the Mexican music began. I was bummed of course because I rented the Cabana for Half Moon Cay and it is my favorite island. They changed ours to Key West ( waste of a stop ), Cozumel and Costa May.

 

 

 

By the time we got on board and ate our cabins were already ready. My cabin was awesome and huge. Deck 6 aft 6344 with an extended balcony. We loved it. Close to dining, lounge, Lido deck and casino. Never heard any noise from below since we were above the lounge. My kids were across the hall in 6340 typical inside cabin. They were bummed when they saw ours but my son brought his girlfriend so it was best that the three of them shared a cabin.

 

 

 

I thought our dining room waiter Jesus was terrific. Our stateroom attendant was great also, I could never make out his name. I would order room service in the morning for coffee and cereal. My room service always came early. So order your wakeup call alittle early. Dining room was fine, my steak and chicken both times were over cooked but I am not complaining. I was full with the appetizers, soups etc so I did not leave hungry. One thing I was upset with was that I ordered room decoration for my sons girlfriend. She was turning 19 and we wanted the room decorated. Mind you I was going to do this myself but figured it was more fun for her if they did it. I get a call in my room after calling asking about it saying they ran out. This should not happen I placed and paid for the decoration a few weeks prior. Now she had nothing so I had to order a cake.

 

 

 

I spent most of my time at the back adult area. It was so funny adults try to bring their kids in the pool back there and the adults scatter in the pool. Finally the read ADULTS only. One guy yesterday must have not been able to read!! I never had a problem eating lunch, no lines for pizza or burgers in the back. They have the best burgers. We went to all the comedy shows which were great. Music outside of the casino was fantastic and everyone was having a great time.

 

 

 

I was told there was 700 kids on board. I never had a problem with any of them. I think they were all well behaved.

 

 

 

Ports. Key West it was raining and nothing really to do there, I wish Carnival would stop this port.

 

 

 

Cozumel. Went to Chankanab park on our own. 4 dollars each for taxi to park. 19.00 to get in I found a 2 dollar coupon on line on the shop. This was use of the park and chairs etc. Snorkeling was 5.00 each. Snorkeling I think was better here than in the Bahamas. Bring cereal and feed the fish they go crazy for it. I did the swim with the dolphins with my sons girlfriend for her birthday. I had so much fun. Spent alot of time in the water with them and thought it was worth the money. Park closes at 5 tho so be careful.

 

 

 

Costa May. Took a 3.00 each taxi ride to downtown Costa Maya and spent a free day at the beach. We had a great table, with a grass hut over us and lounge chairs. As long as we bought our water or anything else there was can use their stuff. Worked out great and Diego the waiter was fantastic. Rented jet ski's. You can get them cheaper than the 40.00 they said they charge. After we paid my teens overhead them give someone else a better deal. Overall the Mexican people are so friendly.

 

 

 

Ships docked and I was off with self assist by 7:40. This has never happened before I was at FLL airport by 9:00. If you need a limo service I used Larry's limo which was the best. Sure I could have used a shuttle service but I had a 11:00 flight I needed to make to beat the hurricane home. No stress with Larry's.

 

 

 

The ship might be an older ship but it was clean and the crew always saying good morning, how is your day etc.
