LisainFL Posted September 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2011 We've been there twice...the first time we took the Carnival bus tour which ended at Port Lucaya before going back to the ship. It was an interesting tour, but we like to see as much of a new place as we can the first time we are there, and we enjoyed shopping at Port Lucaya, my husband particularly liked the Harley ship. The 2nd time, we took a $5 cab to Port Lucaya and back. Had a nice lunch there, spent some time on the beach, and a little shopping. We're going back in October, probably will do the same..we're snorkeling in Nassau, so won't do another water sport the day before in Freeport. From the pier, you can catch a van ride, about a 15 - 20 min. ride, $5PP to Port Lucaya. They drop you off and pick up at the casino. All the shops are across the street. From the casino, next door is the motel. Behind the motel, is the beach area, and is free for as far as you can see. Most of the ships excursions are also located along the beach. We will be back there in Dec.

To answer your question about food and quality, there are a lot of good places in and around Port Lucaya. We are trying something different this time, instead of the traditional meals like we eat here, fried and cracked conch. Know of one that was recommended to us in Nassau, Freeport, have read about a couple of places, but still checking it out. Most of the ones from Freeport are in the Lucaya area. Had conch for the 1st time in Nassau this past April in the customs building at the end of the pier. Was very good.
SteelerCruiser Posted September 8, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2011 grab a taxi/van into Our Lucaya. plenty of shopping and eating and casino to go along with the wonderful beach! There is a public Beach Access near the police station where you can gte access to the same beach they will try to charge you $30 to access near the casino. Love Freeport but you have to get away from the pier area as the ship will dock in an industrial ship yard.
