Avalon or Viking??

We are planning an 8 day Rhine river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel for next May with 2 days pre-cruise in Amsterdam.

 

We are trying to decide between Avalon and Viking and will appreciate any info on these two. There will be 4 couples traveling and all are first time river cruisers although all have done ocean cruises.

We completed that itinerary July 2010 with Avalon and loved our experience. So much so we are planning another trip for 2012 -Prague to Budapest. It was our first river cruise and we thought that the entire experience was top notch. The rooms on Avalon are very spacious with lots of storage. I believe Avalon has the largest rooms of any of the river cruises. The food was outstanding. The excursions and tour guides were fun, interesting and very informative. River cruises keep you very busy since you don't have "days at sea" but that is what we were looking for on our trip. We wanted to see and do and that is what we did. I'm sure you will love the experience.
