Bowcruise Posted September 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2011 We are sailing on the Jan 1st Southern Carribean with stops in St Thomas, Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts, and St Maarten. Wondering what the best beach is at each stop and the easiest/cheapest/most reliable way to get to and from. Also would like to do some snorkeling at one stop, any tips on the best place out of all the ports? Thanks for the help!
agc291 Posted September 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2011 We didnt go to the beach at every stop so I wont be too much help. In St. Thomas we did a scuba excursion at Coki Beach... ride there was about 10- 15 minutes... since it was an excursion it was included so I cant help you with the fare. The beach area seemed pretty nice and they were in the process of building new bathrooms. Barbados we took a $4 pp can over to Harbour Lights. This beach had such pretty sand, very clear water ( you could see little fish swimming around you). There werent alot of vendors either which was great. There are areas to buy food &drinks as well as rent chairs & umbrellas. One warning, SUNSCREEN!!! This island is EXTREMELY hot because it is 13* to the equator. My BF is dark complected and was burnt because we didnt use good enough sunscreen. We walked back into town from the beach. Easy walk about 25 minutes. St. Lucia we took a $7 pp cab to Rodney Bay area and the ride was at least 15 minutes. This beach didnt have a lot of regular vendors, but they did have people who wanted you to do water rides. The sand was the hottest here. You could rent chairs, there were places for food etc. St. Kitts- we did an island tour which stopped at Friars Bay for a short period of time. This beach was ok.. kind of small but alot of people were out snorkeling on one side. They had shipwreck bar here and also had places to rent chairs. St. Maarten we shopped here mostly but did take the water taxi down the boardwalk and rented chairs on the beach. It was in between the 2 taxi stops and was $15 for 2 chairs and 4 alcoholic drinks. This area didnt have vendors on the beach too bad but on the boardwalk it was horrible. They would hear you say no and still offer you the same thing. When we were ready to grab the chairs we simply went up to one of the vendors and asked. You will have a great time!
