Belize City Tours - Need Info

We would like to do a tour while in Belize - we are interested in seeing the city and surrounding area - also some shopping. I was in Belize one time previously but we never left the port.

Does anyone know if there are tours we can book at the port?

The only place I have ever seen city tour was with the ship. Honestly, I wouldn't expect much for a city tour. There just isn't anything of interest to see. We had to pass through the city on the way to cave tubing and our tour guide was really "reaching" to point out things and give us information. Really, for us, it was very boring and we were happy to be out of the city.

There are some historical sites about a mile or so from the Tourist Village where the tenders land. St John's church and across the street the old Governor's Villa now the cultural museum. You can see the outside of the villa from the tenders as you come into port. Cannons and an old yacht on the grounds. Plus maybe a couple of other sites.

You can walk to this, and include a walk along the Promenade and small light house near the Toruist Village and a stop at the local crafts market across from the Tourist Village where prices are cheaper for crafts. Some cruisers get the false impression that being accosted by tour hawkers just outside the doors from the tourist village means walking around is unsafe. But these folks aren't out to harm you, just trying to get you to use their services, and a block away, nobady bothers you.

If you're looking for a nice overview of Belize and Belizean culture and just venturing around the area, not cave tubing or visiting Mayan ruins, NCQBelize Adventures might be able to set up a tour for you. You can gooogle the website. Nacho will contact you very quickly and you can discuss. He and his wife Cynthia can put together a good tour.
