Spring Tulips, Viking Neptune - Drink tap water? Use prepaid phone card-cabin phone?

Hi, we are on the Viking Neptune on 4-6-05, can we drink the tap water on board and can we use a prepaid phone card on board using cabin phone? Can you recieve any phone calls on board? What is Country code and I guess State code (Georgia), when calling from the Netherlands to the States? Are there any public phones in the towns where we dock so that we can use the prepaid card if we can't use it on board? Hope that someone has experience in this situation. Thanks...Cruising Julie

We drank the tap water on Viking Neptune in 2002 and I'm still here posting so it must be OK (seriously - it is). You can't use prepaid phone cards from the ship phones anywhere that I know of. Information about ship phones & rates & emergency numbers for people to call you would be included in the information you should have already received from Viking. Phone cards generally, I think, have their own access codes which you can usually find on the website specific to that card. For example, I have an AT&T prepaid phone card from Sam's. I go on the AT&T website for the codes I need. They won't necessarily be the same codes for other cards. Phone booths in Europe are getting harder to find, like they are here, because so many people have cell phones. I can't say I was looking for them but I would think the easiest way would be to ask the local guide escorting your tours off the Neptune where you could find one (don't forget the time difference, however). We have a t-mobile cell phone enabled for international use & my Mom called me on it at night as we were sailing down the river. At that time it was less expensive to receive calls than to make them so we had arranged times for her to call me & I have to say it worked flawlessly.
