Just read on a review from Sept. cruise that they took city bus (van that said Bus on window) for only $2.50 each to 7 Mile beach in which they entered through a resort. They were told to wat out front near road for bus to come get them to return to the boat & they had no problem! Again only $2.50 per perosn each way!

I found this info on another page about the buses on Grand Cayman. Sounds like a good alternative if you want to explore on your own. Here's how to find the buses:

You have to turn left and walk to the light just past the rum cake place and cross the street and walk away from the water. The next block is a park with a fountain. You can cut over anywhere along the dock area and go 1 block inland and look for a park with a fountain in front of an official looking building. Across from the park you will see the van/busses facing the park. It is a bus depot of sorts. They will gladly answer any questions but 7 mile beach bus has a WB on the front. We went to Cemetery Beach and had a great time hangin' and snorkeling. Very good for both. The people on the bus are extremely nice. Every time we stopped everyone said good morning to the person climbing in and they all were thank you and how are you and just so polite. $2.50 per person USD, best deal on the island.

How is the snorkeling at Cemetery Beach?

Do they have chairs to rent there?

Thanks...

Snorkeling is OK. It gets better 100 yds or so out from shore, but much of the coral is dead, still fish though. No chairs for rent or concessions/amenities either, just shade from the casuarina trees. Farther up the beach about 1/4 mile or so is a beachside restaurant called Al Frescos. They usually have a handful of loungers available for patrons to use.

Our Stingray City tour was cancelled due to rough seas. We found the local bus (super easy and cheap) and took it up to Cemetary Beach. The snorkeling was quite good but it was a bit of long swim out. Worth the effort.

After that, we got the bus back to the main 7 mile beach ... had some good local food ... walked a long long way down then got the bus back to town.

Also, found great (and FREE) great snorkeling just around the far corner from the tenders ...

In the end, even though our tour was cancelled, we had a great day!

It really is more of a van than a bus. So make sure you are looking for the right thing. They have circles in colors on the front and I think we took the green dot van? We caught it right on the main street down from the pier. The drivers are helpful. Just tell them where you want to go and if they are not the right bus they will tell you how to find it.

We asked to go to Calico Jacks (there is a stop right across from it) but mostly hung out at the public beach and just had a couple of drinks from the bar. When we go back we will bring a soft sided cooler, buy our own drinks near the pier and just hang at the public beach. The prices in GC are CRAZY and the public beach is right next to Calico Jacks. There are some food trucks that pull up so we might research that and try one of those.

Where exactly did you like the snorkeling around the corner from the tenders??

We did the bus a few years back and it was easy as anything. We actually just rode it until we thought it looked like a nice spot to get off and that is where we spent the day. Was more relaxed and vacation feel than going with the cruise groups.

I think he is talking about Eden Rock. Google Eden Rock Grand Cayman. We are planning on walking from the tenders to do some snorkeling here and then taking the bus to Cemetery Beach on the far end of 7 Mile Beach to try the snorkeling there. Then we will catch the bus back to town. Hoping for a fun and inexpensive day.
