drco Posted October 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2011 I read somewhere that you can hop on to the Marseille shuttle bus to get from the port to the town? City provides this shuttle bus for free? Anyone have any more information on this like how to get to the shuttle bus? Or perhaps other means of transportation to get to town? I don't mind taking a taxi as there are 4 of us in the group but just wary that taxi drivers might not want to take us if we are just going to the town. Thanks. thelistmaker Posted October 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2011 Just back from the Magic and we did take the shuttle into Marseille. We tried to hire a taxi to take us up to Notre Dame but they weren't interested because they only wanted to tour or something for a larger fare. The shuttle was not free and I think it was 12E for the 2 of us roundtrip maybe someone else has a better memory than me. You can not walk it is a long way and traffic is bad. My husband did talk to someone who walked and it took them an hour. They let you off at the harbor and everything is in walking distance. However, a walk to Notre Dame is uphill. Have fun on your cruise!
AngloinProvence Posted October 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2011 I don't think the city provides a free shuttle from the cruise terminals to the Old Port. If you are on the Old Port and want to visit Notre Dame, take the little tourist train. You can get out at the top, visit the church at your leisure and take a later train back down the hill afterwards. drco Posted October 10, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted October 10, 2011 Can we try to see if a taxi will take us to notre dame first and if not, just go for the shuttle? Or do you have to buy the shuttle tickets in advance? Thanks you guys. Really good info.
chipmaster Posted October 10, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2011 At least for us with Princess they had a continuous set of large confy busses running all day. It wasn't free, few things beyond the inclusive food/entertainment are on the ship, everythign is montized, but I thought it was a good deal and more convenient and trustworthy than trying to catch a cab. Once in town the walk around the dock area was fun. The little tourist train was also fun, pretty amazing how that little engine could lug us up to the church. AngloinProvence Posted October 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2011 You can buy the shuttle tickets from a little booth next to the train stop itself on the Old Port (opposite La Samaritaine brasserie).
Fblack Posted October 27, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 27, 2011 On our stop to Marseilles they had free buses running from the ship to the City/Harbor. They were supposedly sponsored by merchants. The bus dropped us off right at the harbor by the "little train" stop.
