italianfemmy Posted October 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2011 What area do you find works best and when? I was thinking our roll call should meet on Day 1 before things start getting too hectic for everyone. Safety Drill is at 3:30. Sail away party is at 4:00. I've attended a couple in the past but for the life of me, I cannot remember when they were and I know I have missed more than I have participated in due to conflicts of schedule. Any advice on this is much appreciated!
Rare finoky Posted October 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 13, 2011 I would suggest someplace somewhat open, has some seating close by, and a bar close by. Some areas that would work are the atrium bar, casino bar, or the aft lido deck bar.
H82seaUgo Posted October 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2011 we like to get it over quickly, cause some people that show up are quite scary. we aim for 3 on embarkation day at an open bar, usually aft.
hlb76 Posted October 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2011 I personally have never made it to one. Normally they are informal and right before/after sail away. To me that time is way to exciting/busy for me to make it. I always wanted to go but have not. This year we have open bar meet and greet and I'm excited for that. We are doing it 5-6 first sea day! wendymac Posted October 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 13, 2011 In May we had two meet and greets - they had one scheduled on embarkation day - but I didn't go - it was too busy for us - the second one which I attended was on one of the sea days - it was a blast. Ms. Fun Bunch Posted October 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2011 We usually meet after muster drill at the aft bar on the Lido deck.
serene56 Posted October 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Embrakation day is just way too hectic and many people just dont show up. they do have good intentions while chatting the weeks away. But they get onboard-- and are super excited-- then the safety briefing and then the sail away-- they want to unpack and get settled-- its time for dinner-- and on and on- lets not even talk about the people who are travel weary. I try to make our meet and greets the first sea day-- more relaxed. We also scedule another for the last sea day just to see how the week went for every one
italianfemmy Posted October 13, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Such fast responses! Love it! I was looking over the Capers for our Sea Days and I see too many things that we love to do. I am sure if we'd have a hard time committing after day 1, so would other people. So, I've been leaning towards day 1. But so many people plan to check their kids into Camp Carnival, get their stuff into their rooms, visit the Maitre' D, etc. So, I am worried it won't work out if we do it then. I plan to be on the ship early but that doesn't mean everyone else will. Such a dilemma!
slybear Posted October 13, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 13, 2011 We've got 2 informal M&G's planned for our upcoming cruise: 1st one after muster drill on Serenity Deck & 2nd one on first sea day at 2pm at Atrium Bar We will just hope that someone shows at either! 5waldos Posted October 13, 2011 #11 Share Posted October 13, 2011 We also had two- an informal one before muster in the aft bar. And on the second day (at sea) we had a late afternoon one for an hour or so in the piano bar. One of our group played the piano, we had arranged an open bar, the CD came by as it a couple of other crew members- it was really very pleasant. *Mach* Posted October 13, 2011 #12 Share Posted October 13, 2011 We always set ours up for the first full day of the cruise. Embark is way too busy and the new folks are generally lost... the experienced folks are hangin' out on the Lido Deck and attendance is always low. We've always had one of the lounges for our M&Ms... :)
agabbymama Posted October 13, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 13, 2011 I just planned the Meet & Greet for our 7 day cruise out of Vancouver. I wanted to be up on Deck 13 for the Sail Away (under the Lion's Gate Bridge), so planned it for approximately 4:00 after the Muster Drill. We had 68 on the Roll Call say they were attending. Some wore Mardi Gras masks, beads, etc. And we did a $10 Gift Exchange. We had 48 of the 68 show up. It was a blast. Even 7 of the crew showed up. It was the best Meet & Greet of 8 I've ever seen. We also had a Cabin Crawl to 7 different level cabins on the First Sea Day, with a Poker Draw. I think we had about 35 for it. That was a blast too! We had 3 birthdays to celebrate, so we planned a Specialty Dinner and went to Cagney's Steakhouse MMMM Only 9 of us participated in that, but it was enjoyed by all too. Then the last sea day, we did a slot pull in the Casino. And another wonderful event. We had 19 participate in that. No big win, but it was still a lot of fun. And we got free drinks of our choice!:D We had such an AWESOME CRUISE CRITIC group on this cruise. I was just amazed. It kept the fun going all week long! I just booked a last minute cruise for Dec, and just joined the roll call for the sailing and everyone is on their own page and doesn't really seem to want to get together. Maybe 8-10 people (ourselves included) seem to care about getting together. It's the saddest roll call I've been a part of thus far. But, I really want to set something up so those of us who care about making new friends can do so :-)
italianfemmy Posted October 13, 2011 Author #15 Share Posted October 13, 2011 I think next time I book a cruise, I might do something impulsive like choose the one that seems to have the most kick booty group of people in a Roll Call. :-) Making new friends is always one of the highlights for me about cruising. The roll call for my December sailing (as I said I've just joined it over the last few days) but apparently there was a lot of drama between people that had different interests and so it's made everyone kind of fall apart and decide not to be proactive about planning anything. When we did Roll Call on our last cruise *The Miracle on Nov. 19th, 2010*, we had a HUGE group show up. We even got the piano bar and were served complimenary champagne and our cruise director.. Malcom and the Assistant CD.. wish I could remember her name.. she was lovely.. came and hung out with us. They also gave us an open forum to make suggestions and told us how important the CC community is to them. It was pretty neat.
pkrchkr Posted October 13, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 13, 2011 I am planning the big M&G and living the M&G on the day we board to some one else..We are going on the Breeze inaugural sailing out of POM Nov 22 2012 but the M&G is not until the 8 day departing on the 24 of Nov... it is private function that is a paid in advance thing with a open bar for 2 hours with dry snacks.. If you are interested in doing this sort of thing contact the special event dept at CCL.. they will help you.. from my perspective.. start a list of interested people.. then set a deadline for payment date and be firm.. that once that date hits not further payments will be accepted..Put the money in an account and leave it there until before you leave..then get a money order or bank draft for the full amount.. On the day of your function there will be head count and this where the list will come in handy because you will get an accurate head count.. be sure to mark down for people drinking and non drinkers..and the CCL will bill your SS account for the number of attending and take your money order or bank draft and pay off the bill with that money..We are turning ours into a massive "Social at sea" with a 50/50 draw and silent auction.. One of our attendees will try and hi jack a DJ for us and another Breezer is going to try and snafuu the Pizza guy..The price per peron does include a tip but we are donating 50% for the 50/50 draw to our servers as well as proceed from the silent auction draw to them as well.. gotta look after those who look after us... If I can help you in any way let me know..Cheers Karen from Canada

Colorado Kat Posted October 13, 2011 #20 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Wow - some fun times planned! The more successful meet & greet I've attended have been held in lively areas - near a bar and a pool. My daughters prefer to be at the pool, and pop over for a little bit to say hello.
