nycglitter Posted April 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2005 We will be visiting Nassau on our cruise in May. We have been to Nassau before and seen the Atlantis in the distance, but I am wondering if it is worth visiting. I heard that unless you want to shell out $25 you really can't see anything. Is this true? Is there anyway around that fee? I don't want to use the facilities, just want to look around. Any information would be appreciated! lilreckster Posted April 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2005 Husband and I took a cab to Atlantis from the dock.. Yes, it's true that there is a fee; however, you can visit the aquarium and shops and even play in the casino. One of the highlights for us was to walk around their marina looking at all the Yachts and the colorful condos. It's a nice walk. There is also an outdoor shopping center...not a mall...more like a strip mall...located across the street. Walking around the area was envigorating. tocruzagain Posted April 8, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2005 Hey! We were there this past October and hopped a cab over to Atlantis. Depending on your time in port here is the deal to get around Atalantis for free. DO NOT do the excursion through the cruise line it's more expensive. You can hop a cab over there (was $8.00 for two of us each way) and walk all around the resort inside....we also were able to walk out onto their little verandah areas to watch the fish...very nice...for free! You will come upon a restaurant with large aquarium windows that you can walk down to and look all around. If you want to pay "their" rate of $29.00 for admission into the "dig" you get to walk through the tunnels and see the same fish only from a different angle. It was nice, but not worth $60.00 for the both of us. Once it gets to be around 4:30pm'ish the outdoor security (there to ward off the cruise visitors) tend to just all disappear and you can actually walk outside and just keep going and enjoy touring around all the grounds of the resort and check out all the slides, lagoons, etc. It is beautiful!!! We actually were trying to find out way back inside the hotel when we came upon the outside entrance/exit to the dig and walked right on through....even the guy to pay was gone by that point in time. I got some wonderful video footage of the grounds. The whole resort is something to see if you have never been there before. We did not leave Nassau until midnight so we spent a couple of hours there just walking all around. Have a great trip!!
nycglitter Posted April 8, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted April 8, 2005 Thanks tocruzagain! Great information. I am going to check it out. I can't remember what time our ship leaves Nassau, but nevertheless I will head to the Atlantis to see what I can see!' Very excited, can't wait to cruise!!!!:D
tocruzagain Posted April 9, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2005 You are very welcome!! The outdoor areas of Atlantis are also very pretty at dusk because they've done a wonderful job with landscape lighting on all the beautiful palm trees, etc...Also, you can access Cabbage Beach (a free public beach) near Atlantis on Paradise Island too if time permits. If you haven't seen the movie "After the Sunset" go and rent it. The entire movie is set in Nassau and the Atlantis resort. You will get a good viewpoint of some of what you will see and get excited...the water really is that pretty color!!!

I thought only "Holiday In The Sun" with Mary-Kate and Ashley was the only movie with an Atlantis theme. :)

bogforce Posted April 12, 2005 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2005 how does the security know your not staying there? can't you access the resort from the beach?
nycglitter Posted April 12, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted April 12, 2005 NYMOM - I'm glad your parents enjoy the ship so much! We loved it so much last May that we booked again. They must be doing something right! Bogforce - Security stands at all of the exits from the hotel into the pool and grounds area's. They check for your guest card and are very strict. I have gotten some good tips from this thread and plan on trying them out in May!
tocruzagain Posted April 13, 2005 #17 Share Posted April 13, 2005 how does the security know your not staying there? can't you access the resort from the beach? When you are a hotel guest of either Atlantis or Comfort Suites you are given a wristband to wear that shows you have access to the outdoor slides, pool, and beach areas. If you don't have a wristband then they don't let you out there. Like I said earlier though...when we went around 4:30-5pm there were NO security outside and we just walked on out and kept going.
