Monaco- St. Paul de Vence - Eze - Monaco

Renting from Hertz which it looks like it is just down the street (walking distance) and deciding on our itinerary.

How long will it take for us to get to St. Paul de Vence and is there a suggested route? Sounds like it gets very crowded there as well as Eze. If we are making great time any other places we should include?

couple of questions:

1. suggested route and time it takes

2. where to park in St. Paul and Eze

3. Better to lunch in St. Paul or Eze.

Thanks!

Ok, we will try to help (I think I recently posted something about this very topic). You will have to make some decsions regarding time vs interesting drives. Since St Paul de Vence is much further from Monte Carlo then Eze we normally like to go there early in the day and work our way back to the port. But, keep in mind that in the morning (except on Mondays) they also have the wonderful Flower Market in Nice's old town (thought we would muddy up the waters and give you other ideas). The fastest route to St Paul de Vence from Monte Carlo is to drive out of town to the A-8 (major 4 lane Autostrade) and take that very fast road just past the Nice Cote d'Azur airport where you get off near Cagnes at Exit 48 and head inland to St Paul de Vence (there are some signs). Using that route you can make it in about 45 min. The other route is much more interesting (you might want to use this for the return). The other route is to take the two lane road along the coast to Nice (or take the Middle Corniche Road which goes right by Eze Village and also gets you to Nice) where you can drive through town (keeping close to the coast) until you pass the airport. When you get near Cagnes you should see the small sign for St Paul de Vence (having a GPS can be very helpful). This route can be very slow because its all two lane and has a lot of traffic so you should figure on 1:15 give or take......but it is more fun. When you get to St Paul de Vence you have two parking options. You are permitted to park along the road (you will see plenty of other cars) if you can find a spot and that is free (although you might have a long walk depending on location). The 2nd option is drive right past the city entrance and you will see an indoor pay parking garage (well marked with the Blue P) where there is always parking. Take your parking ticket with you since you pay when you return before you go back to your car. As to Eze, there is a medium size parking lot right in front of the village (this is adjacent to the middle corniche road) where we have always found parking. If this lot were to be full we would probably wait (people are always leaving) since we do not know where else to park.

My suggestion is contract Dream Tours, let them do the driving/parking and you just sit back and enjo. You can do St. Paul de Vence, Eze, Nice and still have a couple of hours in Monaco (depending on how much time you have in port). Last year we also included Villa Kerylos and had such a wonderful tour.

Thanks for the suggestion of Villa Kerylos! We dock in Cannes and have already arranged for a private tour for our family. We had thought about St. Paul de Vence, Eze and Nice. I will check if we can add Villa Kerylos. How long did it take to tour it?

  • 2 weeks later...

On the Carnival Breeze October 23 sailing from Barcelona and we will be in Monaco on Sunday Oct 14. I just read that the Royal Palace is closed on Sunday and we may not be able to enter the cathedral due to Sunday services. This has be concerned as to how other areas such as Nice, Eze, St Paul de Vence and even the trains and busses will be affected on a Sunday.

We have done tours here before so had planned on spending the day in Monaco this time or taking a train over to Nice and Eze, but if the shops etc will be closed I'm not sure we want to do that either. Any suggestions or info on being here on a Sunday?
