Luv2Crui$e Posted November 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2011 Can we snorkel in Ocho Rios? We've never been to Jamaica. We usually do our own thing when in port.... taxi or walk to a beach & snorkel. We will be there for a day in about 3 weeks. Thanks!
Family Travel Story Posted November 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2011 I think this is not a snorkeling port. However, if you want to see sea creatures, Dolphin cove is a lot of fun to swim with the fins.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2011 From all I know from our visit it's really not a snorkeling port. Keith
mrsfuzzmo Posted November 19, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2011 There is plenty of good snorkeling around Ocho Rios, BUT not easily accessible from shore or a local beach. If you want to snorkel, book a catamaran or specialty snorkel tour through the ship.
Family Travel Story Posted November 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2011 Funny thing is I have been to Ocho Rios 4 or 5 times, and have never seen a snorkeling tour offered through any of the ships I have been on.
OwASeaUrchin! Posted March 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2012 I think this is not a snorkeling port. However, if you want to see sea creatures, Dolphin cove is a lot of fun to swim with the fins. It might be fun for us, but it's harmful to dolphins. They have been taken forcefully from their friends and family and made to spend the rest of their lives in a lagoon. This is not like keeping a fish in an aquarium. Dolphins are highly intelligent and social creatures. Depriving them of their freedom--no matter how good the living conditions may seem to be--is inherently cruel. If I offered to put you up in a mansion, feed you every day, and provide you with companions of my choice, but you could never ever leave, would you think that was a good deal? There are many ways to have a good time in Jamaica that don't harm these creatures that we all claim to love so much. Kids Speak Out Against Dolphin Captivity This guy actually participated in a dolphin swim in Negril. Cheers, Brian

I do not agree with yours, as I am not a die hard animal activist, but I will fight to and agrue to protect your right to say what you say. In any event, Dolphin Cove really is a great and fund place, whether you do the Dolphin encounter or not. Nice beach, great nature walk, etc.
