  1. 1. Does smoking on one side the lido deck bother you

Recommended Posts

I used to smoke and my job takes me into homes of people that do smoke so it doesn't bother me. However my wife who has never smoked gets severe headaches when around it for a good period of time. I don't judge people that smoke anymore than i do people that don't. My personal feeling and the same i held onto when i smoked is that i would first ask anyone in my area if the minded and if they did i would move to another area so as not to bother someone. I always thought about if the roles were reversed how i would appreciate if someone was courteous to me. I guess i went by the mentality that just cause i have the Right to do something didn't always make it the right thing to do.

Ditto back to land vacations

We made that change last year and aren't looking back. The quality and ever loved "value" is so much higher than what we get on a cruise.

Smoking wasn't the last straw, when we switched it wasn't even in the equation but now with the further tightening of smoking, it will take a lot to get us back on a ship and off a resort.

We sit where they tell us to sit, we stand where they tell us to stand, we move 50-100 feet from a doorway, we aren't allowed to sit at one end of the bar, we are no longer allowed to smoke on the patio area at a restaurant.

Why?

Because every time we move into a smaller area, a non-smoker decides they want to sit there too.

I've always said as long as I can smoke on my balcony and a place on the Lido deck, I'm good with not smoking in any of the bars or inside areas on a ship. I've always tried to be a considerate person, a considerate smoker. I think it's time we started complaining as loudly we can. I have a feeling that our side of the Lido decks will be a goner by the end of 2012, and our balconies by the end of 2013, which will be the end my cruising.

I agree. It's the squeaky wheeel you know. ;)

I've started to voice my opinion over on Carnival and JH's FB pages.

I wish they would do another non-smoking ship. Give the non-smokers a ship of their own and maybe we could get some peace.

Oh but you see, that wouldn't work either. It would always be the wrong itinerary. Because as you know, where ever we are, a non smoker will always want to sit there!

Why dont they banish all the smokers to the engine room -- because that seems to be what the majority of non smoking cruisers really want - or better yet just drop a few life boats behind the ship & make us smoke there - It's really getting annoying - I'm sure someone taking a shortcut via the engine room on the way to the lido deck would complain of the smell - or the smoke from the life boats 100 yds behind the ship is ruining the cruise of balcony passengers on the panorama deck forward --- Here's a novel idea - have everyone take a test on manners & civility - if you pass you can board if you fail go home....sorry just realized that would not work either....the person grading the test might be a smoker -- or even worse a non smoker !!

If you sail on different ships, wouldn't you both get some peace? :D:D:D

OK OK I got it !!!! How about complimentary shock collars for the non smokers --- if you wander into a smoking area a red lite on it starts blinking & you have 5 seconds to get back or ZZZZZZAP !!! Hey...not hatin - just sayin....

make that 2011 on the liberty 2.0. but i see that is already under review.

it's actually becoming funny how carnival is actually attempting to solve each and every complaint and issue, with an apology. ann landers and dear abbey has been replaced with dear john.

wonder if we will ever find out which blockhead put the outside burger and food sections in the smoking areas.

H2seaUgo- did you see John's page where he mentioned the overwhelming surveys that want all ships non smoking? I really feel that smokers are going to end up with hanging off the fantail on the sun deck.... But no one I know or have even heard of has seen one of these surveys.

I wish there was another option. I try and avoid the smoking side but think there should be no smoking by the food areas. If people can fly and work and do all sorts of things they can not smoke during a meal. Most states do not allow smoking in a restaurant and I think that is a good option . I also think there should be a indoor lounge or covered are for smoking. I do not care for it, but smokers should be able to smoke. I should be able to avoid that. I personally do not like the casino because of the smoke, there is too much for me. I went on my last cruise and the scent lingers in my hair so I had to take a shower upon returning to the room to get out the smell. But as a better note it keeps me from wasting money in the casino.

yup, and i even asked after he published that only 10% of the ccl cruiser smoked, which is lower than the percentage of land smokers, i and other asked how this survey was conducted.

silence.

and many smokers came on saying no one asked them.

more silence.

and then a poll, unscientific, of course, was posted here, and the results were significantly different.

it also indicated to me that there are more non smoking posters that contribute posts, than the silent majority of voting members. the results were no where near 10%.

when i get online later, i'll have to see if it's still around.

"wonder if we will ever find out which blockhead put the outside burger and food sections in the smoking areas. "

That is what I said on one of the other threads regarding this. How hard would it be to place Guys somewhere else closer to a non smoking area? It wouldnt resolve the immediate issue on Liberty but would on future 2.0 ships. Seems really simple to me. But what do I know.

I always enjoy reading these types of threads especially knowing that smokers were all up in arms when Florida was looking to ban smoking in restaurants that had X percentage (I forget what X is) of their sales from food. Basically this outlawed smoking in most bars/restaurants. After this law was adopted restaurants sales actually increased as non-smokers began to frequent restaurants they wouldn't even consider. The restaurants opened patio seating or people just get up from the bar and go outside to enjoy their habit.

I am ok with designated areas for smokers to get their fix; however, this should be outside. If it's on the Lido Deck and one bar is smoking then both bars should be opened. The issue is you have people on the far end of both spectrums. Some smokers just light up wherever they like and some non-smokers would complain even if you had a "smoking room".

My opinion is the Piano Bar area should not be a smoking area since the ventilation there sucks; however, I did NOT complain about it and it was my choice to either go to that bar and hang out or pass it by and do something else.

The blaconies are tricky. Being a non-smoker if I pay for a balcony and want to read, get some sun, the last thing I want to smell is cigar/cigarette smoke.

I'm willing to bet changes are coming and the smokers probably won't like the changes. It will be interesting to follow this subject to see what happens.

I don't post here much anymore, but I am frustrated! Carnival is making this what they want it to be - not what makes common sense. For instance - putting an adults only serenity area on the Legend, Lido aft, and banning smoking there. While allowing smoking by the main pool where there are kids and people are eating! The only thing this will accomplish is banning smoking from the lido on the Spirit class ships too! If they wanted a true compromise, they would allow smokers aft where the winds blows the smoke away from the ship. Obviously they are moving in the direction they want one step at a time - regardless of consideration for their smoking guests and the revenue it

generates!

It's probably only a matter of time - and after 19 cruises I did not get this phantom survey either. :(

snapaxp - This thread was started in part by the removal of the Lido deck smoking area on the Liberty and it's new 2.0 changes. It happened mid cruise, because of 44 complaints out of over 2000 cruisers. Please note that the Lido deck is outside, that the Piano bar is no longer smoking and that the Cigar Bar is also now non smoking.

Also please note that a smoker will go to a non smoking restaurant and leave within a couple of hours. If a smoker is on a cruise ship, where are they going to go?

I agree that changes are coming, and while I have no idea whether it will hurt or help Carnival's bottom line, I can say that I will vote with my feet. And my money.
