Cabin availability...booking with RCI vs the other guys...

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm hoping my fellow Cruise Critics will know the answer to this question so I can make an informed decision.

I booked a cabin for my upcoming cruise (December 9, 2011) on Monarch directly with RCI. I have been assigned a cabin on deck 6 which is a little farther forward than I'd prefer if given the choice.

I called RCI last night to find out if there were cabins in the same category available more towards mid-ship and was told that my current cabin is as good as is available.

After I hung up with RCI, I went online to look at a different travel agency's site for booking and they are showing many cabins in the same category that are available closer to mid-ship.

My assumption is that this agency had a block of rooms assigned to them to sell and that at some point their unsold inventory will be returned to RCI.

I'd love to switch my current cabin to one of the cabins showing as available on the other site but apparently can't do it directly with RCI at the present time.

Can anyone tell me when unsold inventory from other agencies should return to RCI and show up in their system as being available?

Thanks!
