Snorkeling in front of Osprey Hotel

Has anyone taken a cab (about $5 pp one way) into Cockburn , sightsee, then snorkel from the beach in front of Osprey Hotel. If you have , how far out is the reef? I'm not concerned about the Wall, just want to see fish and coral. Will be there Dec 15 on the Liberty. :)
