New Orleans - Embassy Suites

Very nice hotel and great location for pre or post cruise. When the Saints won the Superbowl and they had a big parade I got stuck downtown and had to stay overnight. I was able to get a room there and it was great. Loved the free cocktails, the snacks and the large breakfast buffet. It's close enough to anything you'd want to see. The WWII museum and two or three art museums are very close by. There are some great restaurants nearby. La Boca, Grand Isle and Rio Mar.

We stayed here in January 2012 for one night prior to the cruise. Nice accomodations and we enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning. Easy walk to the french quarter and other attractions. Even though it was .2 miles to the port, we took a taxi with all the luggage. $7.00 per person was what it cost. This is a fixed cost posted on the taxis.

We stayed at the Renaissance Arts hotel which was 1-2 blocks further away and we walked to the port with our luggage. The Embassy Suites is about the closest hotel to the port (other than the Marriott Convention Center). You should be able to walk if you don't have a lot of luggage and are able bodied.
