Saz Posted April 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2005 Could some of you seasoned cruisers please tell me what the laundry facilities are like on the QE2. Is there a booking process or is it on a first in first served basis? Are there irons and ironing boards in the state rooms or do you have to go the laundry to do your ironing? Thanks Heaps, SAZ:confused:
jbailey Posted April 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2005 There is an adequate self-service laundry room on Deck 3 toward the stern of the ship. Detergent is provided and the washers and dryers are free, as are the irons in the adjoining room. You might want to bring your own fabric softener sheets, as these are not available. Use of the machines is first in, first-served basis. The laundry room is a great place to catch up on shipboard gossip, by the way. It is most busy on embarkation with those people who have been traveling catching up on laundry and before you arrive at your destination with those people getting ready for more travel. You cannot use an iron in your cabin for fire safety reasons.

Navaleye Posted April 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2005 Washing powder is provided FOC, so don't bother buying any from the ships shop.
tandemtourer Posted April 9, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2005 Captaintandemtourer located the laundry room early in our voyage. (It's easy to find, just look for the lint trail near the door.) There are only four or five ironing boards. On formal nights you might have to wait in line. There are absolutely no hangers so be sure to take them with you from your cabin. It was very entertaining to see people ironing their finery then promenading "above stairs". It really is a great place to meet fellow passengers. One day at lunch in the Princess Grill a woman stopped by our table to ask if Captaintandemtourer had located his missing underwear. :)
OzCanuck Posted April 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2005 ...and bring a book, and be prepared to wait. One morning I rose at 6:15 to do my laundry, and there was already a line-up of 5-6 people waiting for machines. Best times? Port days (but that sucks), and around 6pm. There are 12 washers and dryers, but at least 2 of each were on the blink the whole time.
