Kona question about Kealakekua Bay

Can you drive to this place and go snorkling or do you have to take a boat snorkling trip?

You can drive to the area and rent a kayak to take yourself out to the far side of the bay to get to the good snorkeling area. But you can't snorkel out from the beach without being an extremely strong swimmer and planning on swimming out for quite a distance. The much easier method is to just take a snorkeling trip.
