Miami

We are flying into Miami the day before our cruise. In looking for a hotel it seems hotels that have complemintary airport shuttle, are to far to take a taxi to the port of Miami. Some of these hotels have contracted shuttle service to the port but none before 11AM.

Are there any hotels close to the cruise terminal that offer airport pick up or close enough to the terminal where taxi fare isn't crazy.

Airport hotels are not 'too far' to take a taxi - but it will cost approx $30 to get to the port!

Some hotels that do not have a 'pre-advertised' shuttle will still be able to locate a private shuttle company for you - at a cost of approx $10-12 per person and you should be able to advise what time you wish to be picked up.

However if you are at least 3 people it is probably as cheap and more convenient to get a cab!

Shuttle service from the airport is most often offered by those hotels closest to the airport. Not by the ones nearer downtown/port area.

You can pay the cab fare to the port area hotels ( approx 25-30$) from MIA and then take a 10-15$ cab to the ship in the morning. You can go when you want and avoid waiting for space on shuttles.

If you are going to be in Miami for more than to sleep, then I wouldn't stay at an airport hotel to save room costs, unless you want to just spend time at the hotel's pool. If staying near the airport, the Blue Lagoon area hotels are nice and at least have restaurants nearby.

None of the downtown Miami hotels close to POM offers a free airport shuttle, but a cab from the MIA airport should only cost $25 or so (for the cab, not per person) - as mentioned above it's a good deal if you split the cab fare between 2-4 passengers. Another $10-12 cab ride will get you to POM the next morning as early as you desire. Look at the Hyatt, Intercontinental, Marriott and Doubletree.

After your cruise a cab back to MIA from POM is a flat rate fare of $24+tip.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the help.

Never have stayed in the area so I didn't want to go to a hotel further from the Port only to increase taxi fare to get to both the hotel and the port. Some of the places I called would only say the time to the port. Not really helpful for someone not knowing the area or congestion. But the taxi prices given (I realize not quotes) helps and getting a hotel in the airport or port area really won't be that bad (taxi fare point of view)

If your flight arrives later in the day and all you are looking for is dinner and a clean room then check out hotels in the Blue Lagoon area near MIA (Hampton Inn, Sofitel, Homewood Suites and others) - free airport shuttles and shopping and dining options within walking distance. As mentioned above, most can arrange for shuttle service to POM for about $10 per person, or you can cab it for under $30 per cab. The ride to POM will take about 15 or so minutes. Have a good cruise! :)
