girlscruise2011 Posted December 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2011 looking at a cruise oct. 13th out of jacksonville. what will the weather be like in bahamas. will it be warm enough to swim still?? I was just in Nassau this past October. I was swimming in the water at the Hilton and it was nice. Warm but not hot. One thing though is October is their "rainy season" and by mid afternoon we did get some rain. Unfortunately, it followed us home to Miami :(

FlaBubba Posted December 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2011 Weather in the Bahamas is pretty much the same weather has in south Florida. It should be warm enough to swim if a cool front does not come through. The other thing to worry about is the fact that its hurricane season also. We were there this past September and had no problem except it was raining. Still had a good time between the ship and casino over at Atlantis. Enjoy!

girlscruise2011 Posted December 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 17, 2011 so hard to decide. would august be better??? If you like hot, I would think August would be better. Still hurricane season though so anything can happen with the weather. You should go over to the Bahamas board and ask Scubagirl. Shes a local thats very helpful on the board. I'm sure she can help you with the weather at the different times of the year. I went to Nassau twice, once in February and it was in the 60s and windy and October, warm but rainy. I am back in May and I hope I get better weather this time :)
amillard222 Posted December 17, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 17, 2011 Our first cruise was out of Charleston on October 20 2010. The weather was perfect, didnt rain and was plenty warm enough to swim even for my hubby who hates anything close to cold water. When we would lay out on the ship it was so warm we would be sweating and have to go inside to cool off. I would def. go again in October.
Elmo31 Posted December 17, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 17, 2011 We were just there the end of October and I was wearing shorts and a tank top and was sweating. We didnt go to any beaches but walked around the straw market. We cruise alot in October and love it, as you can see by my signature. Just remember mother nature is in charge. klondike11 Posted December 17, 2011 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2011 Last November, DH and I went on the new NCL Epic (nice ship but will not stray from Carnival again) and we thought since it was beyond stormy season we'd be okay-well, not the story! It was pretty cold in Ft. Lauderdale and rainy in St. Thomas, bad enough that they cancelled our St. John excursion and then went right past Nassau! We didn't know what happened but they said it was too windy and we might hit .....so we were disappointed! It's just my opinion but I would not go in October, I'd hate to have you miss your ports! Colorado Kat Posted December 17, 2011 #12 Share Posted December 17, 2011 I was just in the Bahamas this past October. Half Moon Cay was wonderful! I went Scuba-diving outside Nassau, and didn't need a wetsuit. Lovely water. A couple of nice snorkling trips.

Room Service! Posted December 17, 2011 #14 Share Posted December 17, 2011 We have been several times in Oct. Mostly it's been great. Air temps are mid 80's, ... normally, and the ocean is very comfortable. We'll be doing it again next year.
Mad Capn Bob Posted December 17, 2011 #15 Share Posted December 17, 2011 On my Oct 23-30 cruise on the Pride, it was in the upper 80's in Nassau... looking at a cruise oct. 13th out of jacksonville. what will the weather be like in bahamas. will it be warm enough to swim still?? jagsfan Posted December 17, 2011 #16 Share Posted December 17, 2011 Oct in the Bahamas is hot and sweaty weather......fine for swimming. There may or may not be a hurricane in the area, but there's a great chance of a tropical depression or just plain old afternoon heat build up thunderstorms. You'd most likely have time to swim and bake in the sun, though. The kids are back in school, compared to August.
jannam Posted December 19, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 19, 2011 We spent a week in Freeport in early/mid November of 2010 and the weather was perfect. Low 80s the whole week. Water was lovely. I think August would be a bit hot for me, but that is just my preference. --Janna
