Is ship dining "all you can eat"?

On our Majesty cruise after dinner the waitress came to take our dessert orders. DH explained he didn't want any, the waitress repeated "nothing sir" and he said nothing, a few minutes later another waitress cam to ht etable and asked him about dessert. He replied nothing thank you, she again repeated "nothing" sir and he said nothing. When dessert was served to the rest of our table a plate was placed in front of DH decorated and written in chocolate....... you guessed it "Nothing".

My BIL got the same thing on the Sea -- a beautiful plate with "nothing" written in chocolate across it :D . We thought it was great!

If you go away hungry on the cruise, it will be your own fault. Our friend who introduced us to cruising routinely gains 15 pounds -- he's one of the order 2 entrees every night sort of guys -- DH gained 10 pounds (made sure to hit the snacks in the casino at midnight) and I gained 5 while trying to be relatively careful. What's more, if you don't like your entree for some reason, just tell the waiter and they will replace it with something else.

By the way, try the chilled soups -- they're delicious. We're going again in May, and I think that is the main reason my DD wants to go. She's been talking about cold soups since was got back from Alaska last June.

Another thing some people don't know - they have shrimp cocktail as an appetizer the first night and then it disappears from the menu. You can order it every night if you'd like.

That's great to know, thanks Peter! I will certainly remember that--love shrimp cocktail.

My DD loved the chilled soups too! She is a soup fanatic and has been in search of soups as good as we enjoyed on the Dawn 01/04 every since we got back. Next cruise booked for Thanksgiving/Dawn this year. I can just see her saying No thanks to the turkey but pass that pear soup!!

We all agreed that the soup was something to look forward to every night. At first DD's though that cold soup was something they would never eat, after tasting mine everyone ordered it and repeated each night. that is really something I would pass up the turkey for and opt for the soup

Is it just me or should pigging out be referred to as "all you care to eat"?

The term "all you can eat" sounds like a challenge.

Normally, I don't take it as a challenge. But the combination of such good food and knowing I paid so much, on a cruise, I take it as a challenge. :) It's certainly a fun challenge.

Or is it an attitude that says "well, I paid for it so I need to eat as much as I can?" Come on, does anyone really NEED to eat 5 lobster tails or 3 entrees??

My wife and I are not big eaters, we prefer quality over quanity But every time we have cruised NCL we seem to move from meal to snack to meal to snack and back to meal. Food is so central to the cruise that no one goes hungry at all. You will be offered it at just about every turn. And it good too! :)
