Where to Stay

Wife and I (mid-50s) arrive in Port of Miami on Friday morning (3/30) and fly out of Ft Lauderdale on Sunday morning (10AM). Have rental car. Want to see South Beach and sights of Miami, but should we stay there or is there a less expensive alternative. Stay both nights in Miami or split between Miami and Ft Lauderdale? Don't need night life but interested in architecture and beach. Thanks.

I'd split. Spend the first day/night in Miami Beach. Take in the art deco and S. Beach area. Then drive to Ft. L and spend the day using the water taxi to see that unique area. You could stop in Hollywood on the way up to Ft. and walk the broadwalk along the beach there too.

Taxi to South Beach for the first night, then pick up your rental car and head for the FLL area. Miami Beach hotels charge $25-35+ per night for parking and most of what you want to see and enjoy is within walking distance if you choose a good SB hotel.

Good luck! :)
