pjfnme Posted April 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2005 Can anyone tell me how accessible the Conquest is to a scooter? We were not able to secure a handicapped cabin..but, were told that this should not be a problem as the person can walk a bit. She is concerned however about how accessible the ship is with a scooter....will it fit in thru the cabin doorways? Does anyone know the inside measurement of the cabin entryways? Also...if it were between a manual wheelchair or a power scooter which would be the best to take and use aboard ship? She is planning on definitely taking the wheelchair to use in ports and we are trying to decide if it is worth it to take the scooter as well!! I would appreciate any information !!! Thank you! DEL67 Posted April 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2005 We have not been on the Conquest, but we have been on the Glory, one of her sister ships so my answers should hold true for the Conquest. Can anyone tell me how accessible the Conquest is to a scooter? The public areas of the Conquest should be fully accessible to a scooter. Unlike many ships, the Glort even had a ramp to the raised section of our diningroom. We were not able to secure a handicapped cabin..but, were told that this should not be a problem as the person can walk a bit. She is concerned however about how accessible the ship is with a scooter....will it fit in thru the cabin doorways? Does anyone know the inside measurement of the cabin entryways? I do not know the measurements of the doors to the non-handicap cabins; however on most ships they are only 23" to 24" wide. A travel scooter might fit through, but most will not. The door to the bathroom will also be raised, will that be an issue? Also, if she needs one, be sure to request a shower chair ahead of time and call the purser's desk if it is not in you cabin when you arrive. And take an extension cord for charging the wheelchair. If it were between a manual wheelchair or a power scooter which would be the best to take and use aboard ship? The scooter is definitely the best choice aboard ship. Ships are very large and the carpeting makes it difficult for people to propel themselves. A scooter will give her independence and allow her to relax and enjoy her time aboard ship. Although many people use scooters in port, I think a manual chair is a more flexible choice. It not only fits easily into taxis, but if one of her companions knows how to get the chair up curbs or one or two steps, then she can access more places. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for all of the information!!! You have made me feel much more comfortable with the decision to take both the scooter and the wheelchair....now, if we could only find somewhere close to park!!! LOL Thanks again! CaptData Posted April 16, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Another suggestion is to rent a small scooter. One that is 17 inches wide for the ship. I use one and it fits in a regular cabin if required. It can be delivered to your room on the ship. Check with Care Vactions or Scooter Around.
