bhopal21 Posted April 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2005 Keep in mind that all of the beaches in the Florida Keys are man-made. Sand is hauled in periodically and beach shoes are handy due to rock and coral. I prefer the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor, personally. RENEEG Posted April 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2005 I've been to both and they are totally different as to atmosphere. Fort Zachary Beach is very relaxing. It is a state park and entrance is around $3. There is a building that sells refreshments and rents beach chairs. The back of the beach is pine tree lined with picnic tables and grills scattered throughout. There is a path that leads around to where you can view the harbor by Mallory Square. Smathers beach is a long stretch of beach. There are numerous places to rent parasailing equipment etc. There are refreshment trucks parked along the road with refreshments available. You can usually find a game of sand volleyball going on. It seems to be a more active crowd, where Fort Zachary is a beach where people like to relax. Actually I enjoy them both. It depends on what you are looking for.
claroquesi Posted April 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2005 Sneak into the Casa Marina`s Kokomo Beach. For atmosphere it scores high on the wow factor!
