Ports in Southern Caribbean?

My husband and I will be taking our first cruise next month. We are going to the Southern Caribbean (St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, Aruba). We already have our shore excursions booked for each port but with our remaining time left at the port we are looking for recommendations of other things to see and/or do.

 

For each particular port listed above, what things are within walking distance of the ship that are good to see and/or do? If you do recommend an activity and it's not within walking distance of the ship, about how long does it take to get there and by what mode of transportation do you recommend?

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

St Thomas - you will probably be docked at Havensight. At the end of your tour, there are lots of shops right at the pier so that you don't have to waste time going into town. The shops are the same in town and at Havensight. If you are taking an idependent tour, your driver might stop in town for awhile.

Dominica - not much here - good thing you are taking a tour. There are only a couple of stores. The ship docks right in downtown Roseau. There are a lot of vendors along a couple of the side streets and behind the Museum.

Barbados - there are several shops right in the cruise terminal and several vendors outside the terminal. It's about the length of 2 cruise ships to go from the ship to the terminal. There is a local craft market outside the security gates which is open everyday but Sunday. It is taxi ride to get into town.

Aruba - you are within walking distance of the town and stores. If you are there on a Sunday, only a handful of stores will be open from 10 until 1.
