Ensenada with kids?

Our kids are now 18 & 20 and we have been taking them to this area since they were 6 weeks old.

This is a very recent Ensenada thread.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1546570

The tourist area is at most a 15 minute, relatively flat, walk from the ship.

The main tourist areas, the Malecon, Fish Market & Ave. Lopez have good sidewalks with cutouts wheelchair/stroller. Not all cut outs are at a corner but are a few feet from the corner. Be careful off of Ave Lopez because of the sidewalks. The locals know to look for open utility boxes.

A good place for your 3yo to burn off steam is under the Big Flag. It's a huge Plaza, never too crowded.

We've never been visited by Montezuma on any of our trips. We eat in the established places, even use the ice. When the kids were younger we convinced them that a fish taco is only a fish stick wrapped in a tortilla. The 1yo must have eaten 5 of them.

Ensenada will have similar weather to San Diego. Check on weather.com

Ensenada is safe*. We were just there in November and will be back in a few weeks. We walk all over town and into the local areas. Last time we found the Tortilleria a few blocks off Ave Lopez.

The parts of Ensenada that aren't safe are crossing Blvd Lazaro Cardenas and the sidewalks in the non-tourist areas. Cross at the light and make sure the cars are stopped. On Ave Lopes the shopkeepers have cameras and security.

When walking from the ship there will be a bridge to cross. A few locals will be there to sell you tours or trinkets. Do not buy trinkets from the kids. They are brought in and should be in school. They get no money from this. Also if you buy from one you will be inundated by more.

Do buy from the shops and the little stands on the sidewalks. Our DDs like the thread bracelets from the bracelet men. They usually just have a board and backpack. All of the vendors will have a badge.

*The tourist areas and the other places mentioned on the other thread are safe to go. I'm sure other areas are also, just haven't been there yet. Be aware of your surroundings. I live in Los Angeles, bad things happen all the time.

(We are going on the 1/30 and the 2/10 sailings.)

SadieN , I am also in the 2/10 sailing :-) WE have been to Ensenada 3 years back and loved the weekend cruise from LA. The last time we took the blowhole tour. This time we are planning to walk to the city like you mentioned. If you have links showing the walking to city path that would be great.

Here is a tip,,if you need a really uber-clean restroom go to the Sears. The Sears there is actually cleaner then our Sears here in our city. The sales personel dress nicer too.

BTW,,the hardest part of the 15 minute walk it punching through the dozen of so old grandma types that have thier grandkids out there selling Chiclets. You have to keep your wits to get through them.
