Wimpinthewater35 Posted January 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Is it common for people to wear what they boarded the ship wearing or do most people get their luggage in time to change for 1st seating? Just wondering by some small chance, if the ship hasn't cleared on time and they are still not allowing new passengers onboard do they make us wait outside the terminal or inside someplace? What cruiseline is next to MSC at the port? wondering what ships we might be next to/across from. Do we have to show our tickets to someone to get onto the port property when we take a taxi? Don't want to have tickets in a bag in the trunk if we need to show them before the pier itself. Dad says in Miami the luggage people demanded and were rude about getting a specific amount for tip. Are they like that in Ft lauderdale too?
shunter2309 Posted January 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Is it common for people to wear what they boarded the ship wearing or do most people get their luggage in time to change for 1st seating? We barely got our bags in time for 1st seating. It was very casual. We were escorted straight to our cabin on boarding, so you may consider packing a change of clothes in your hand luggage. Just wondering by some small chance, if the ship hasn't cleared on time and they are still not allowing new passengers onboard do they make us wait outside the terminal or inside someplace? don't know, sorry What cruiseline is next to MSC at the port? wondering what ships we might be next to/across from. can't remember, sorry Do we have to show our tickets to someone to get onto the port property when we take a taxi? Don't want to have tickets in a bag in the trunk if we need to show them before the pier itself. Yes, we had to have all our documentation in our hands to enter the port Dad says in Miami the luggage people demanded and were rude about getting a specific amount for tip. Are they like that in Ft lauderdale too? we found the ones on the port to be very polite and chatty. $1-2 for a tip per bag isn't too much to ask. Didn't see those who brought them to our cabin, so no tip for them.

Irishman45 Posted January 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2012 The ones in miami were demanding $5 per bag according to my dad. They tried that with me in November. Attempting to get more out of us older people who might be scared to say no. Happened with the taxi too tried to say the meter was broken. Hope he didn't give them that much or atleast reported it inside if he did.

joybaby Posted January 20, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2012 Miami was very demanding. Several yrs. ago a porter told me if I wanted to see my luggage I needed to tip him. (It was the plan I just didn't have the cash visible.) FLL - last Nov. the porter made it very clear we were to tip him, he just wasn't as obnoxious as the Miami. It is what it is! Are they like that in Ft lauderdale too?[/QU If the ship hasnt cleared, you are able to wear what you have on to the dinning room.. the first night is normally OK. other than that, other nights, rules are rules. while waiting to board, you will be inside an air conditioned building. You will need to show your tickets before you go INTO the port building. NOT outside in the parking lot where you will be dropped off. When you go into that building thats where you will need your ticket, passport or ID with you till you get your ship board key card. then you can put all those other things away. you will be ON YOUR WAY!!!! yay! we have never had a problem with rude porters. I guess we arent that good of a tipper, we usually give 2.00 a bag. which is about 10.00. besides, they are too busy loading your luggage to actually see what you ahve given them. try this.. cruiseTT.com this site will tell you what ships will be in port with you at what ever port you are in. I THINK this will site will get you there.
