caper Posted May 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I have taken a cruise on the Dawn for my honeymoon, but I got very sick from the cleaners they use to clean the rooms and ship common areas. I had to leave the ship half way into the cruise.
Big Al B. Posted May 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I don't think the main dining rooms take reservations, but you should be able to get a table for seven. I guess the wait will depend on the time you get there and how many people are eating at that time. You just walk in and tell them how many you need seating for. The specialty restaurants do require reservations. All of these except the Italian one are pay extra. Statendam-Alaska '97, Veendam-NE/Canada '98, RCCL-Bermuda, '99, Am. emcemt Posted May 13, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Exactly which resteraunts have a surcharge and is it worth it? I have enjoyed the surcharge resteraunts on other cruise lines and have found them excellent for the most part. How much are the surcharges? Thanx for the info. howard6933 Posted May 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2004 We have tried several of the "extra charge" restaurants on both the Dawn and the Star and the one we found to be the best is the Japanese Tepanyaki restaurant. If I remember correctly, the extra charge was $12.50 per person, but I believe it depends on what you order. The main restarurants on both ships were just fine, and the next time I sail on Dawn or Star, I think we'll just stick to those except maybe the Japanese restaurant again. It really was the best meal we had on both ships.
JH Posted May 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Le Bistro and Cagney's are both worth the extra surcharges. Food and service were both very good.
jenhall11 Posted May 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Both the Italian rest. and Salsa (tex-MEx are free) We sailed on 5/9 and found the service in all of the rest. wonderful except Cagneys. We ate there on the first night of the cruise and the service was horrible.(My lobster was wonderful) It took forever to give us menues, fill our order, clear our table and there was hardly anyone dining. We exepreinced fabulous service everywhere else. We bought soda cards and were always brought fresh glasses without asking. We tried Salsa, Cagneys all of the Main dining rooms and Le Bistro (twice). Le Bistro was worth the money. The covercharge is now $15.00. We had the firestart combo.both times. We never had a problem getting into the sepcialty rest. without reservations. (We did have reservations for Cagneys). We would just go up to the Rest. and ask if there was a table available. We usually ate around 6:30. We did have trouble getting in to Impressions twice, but we just went to another rest. and were seated immediately.
