Anyone know why the Conquest isn't sailing....

from August 28th through September 10th? Could it possibly be going to dry or wet dock?

I guess if that was the case it would be good for us becasue we are sailing on Sept. 11th.

The Conquest has not been dry-docked since it started cruising out of New Orleans in November 2002. Most maritime insurance policies require cruise ships to be dry-docked twice within a five-year period in order for the ship to remain insurable. The Conquest is long overdue for a drydocking if it's to meet that insurance requirement. Maybe while it's in drydock they'll go ahead and upgrade its wireless internet capabilities to cover the entire ship like on the Valor. Who knows, they might even install those new facial-recognition photo kiosks that Carnival is supposed to be rolling out.

Our waiter said she was headed to drydock for two weeks in late summer when we were onboard in March.

When we made our reservation for 1/1/06 we asked when she would be in dry dock and were told August 05. They weren't sure if any changes were being made, just routine maintainence.

Some will be on vacation but according to our waiter most of the same staff all stay on board and do the cleaning. He said he had lucked out and was starting his vacation during that time. he said it is not fun to be on ship during dry dock as there is no air conditioning and it is very hot especially when you are working hard doing cleaning.
