Droopy Posted April 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2005 How long does it take to get down the Mississippi on the Conquest before you get to the Caribbean?
yuyi64 Posted April 16, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2005 It takes six to eight hours from the New Orleans cruise terminal to Southwest Pass at the mouth of the Mississippi River, depending on the ship's speed and weather condition. If you're cruising on the Conquest you'll probably enter the Gulf of Mexico between midnight and 2am.
gwe21 Posted April 16, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Yup, gets to the pretty blue ocean around 2 am. I know because I stayed up all night watching for it!!! :) It is a long trip!
QTgas Posted April 16, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2005 It's cool to be on the top deck at midnight listening to the waves and hearing the bells and horns on the channel markers! Tim
CrazyMums Posted April 16, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Yup, gets to the pretty blue ocean around 2 am. It sounds like it would be a very interesting sail. We always sail out of Florida and it never occurred to me that Carnival ships actually sail in a river. We've checked into a few river cruises but they seem to be expensive for what you get. How does this affect the casino? Do they have to stay closed until they are actually out in the ocean?
GoinCruisin Posted April 16, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Cruising down the MS is way cool!!! Love cruising out of NOLA!!! Last year on the Sensation, the Conquest nearly mowed us down in the Mississippi, and next year, we'll be doing the mowing!!! Can't wait!!! Don't know about the Conquest, but when I sailed on the Holiday the casinos were open shortly after we left the dock in NO.
Patdmoose Posted April 16, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 16, 2005 That is, of course, unless you were on the Holiday in Febraury of '03 & the ship ran aground and got stuck in the mud. Once the captain got her unstuck, we had to drop anchor and wait for hours for the USCG and Lloyds of London to arrive and inspect the hull for damage. We finally entered the gulf during the early breakfast the next morning. At midnight, we were on deck watching the river traffic have to manuever around us. BrendaB1 Posted April 16, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Gambling is legal in Louisiana so casinos open shortly after sailing and are also open pretty late on return. Check your capers for exact times.
klfrodo Posted April 16, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2005 The Inspiration sure di rock and roll while on the river while have to negotiate the bends and turns in the river.
CrazyMums Posted April 16, 2005 #11 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Thanks for the answers to the casino question. It sounds like it would be worth the extra expense to travel to NOLA just to cruise down the Mississippi. We drive to the ports here so it really cuts down on costs. Something for me to check into though!
BrendaB1 Posted April 16, 2005 #12 Share Posted April 16, 2005 Nola is my favorite port to cruise from. The ride down the Mississippi is an adventure.

This was perfect timing since we had just finished dinner in the Renoir dining room and had started to walk Impressionist Blvd. on deck 5 to see what activities were going on in the lounges.
