Question For Canadians Who Have Bought OBC

I called RCI this morning to buy some on board credit for our upcoming cruise and was surprised to hear that $450 OBC would cost me approximately $495 Canadian. As our dollar is currently above par I would have expected to only pay a conversion fee of 2-3%.

When questioning how often the conversion rates are updated I was told that my conversion rate is locked in from the date the cruise was initially purchased (when our dollar was below par). Apparently I am locked in at $1.10 Cdn to purchase $1.00 US.

Also as a matter of interest, I asked if I would be able to purchase the OBC on my American credit card and I was told no because the initial purchase was in Canadian funds.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
