KristyM79 Posted February 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2012 I'll be sailing out New Orleans next month and we'll be there a day before sailing and a couple days after. We'll be staying in the French Quarter. I'm looking for great places to eat, authentic New Orleans cuisine, that I don't have to drive to. I'm familiar with Antoine's, Emerils, Brennan's, etc, but I'm looking for a relaxed, casual atmosphere that's perfect to pop into during or after a day of sightseeing. Any suggestions? jgmpuma Posted February 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Some of our favorites are listed below. All are in the French Quarter, serve local cuisine, and are not expensive. Some have websites, some don't. Irene's Cuisine 539 St. Phillip Olivier's 204 Decatur Orleans Grapevine 720 Orleans Cafe Amelie 912 Royal

Carl Nival Posted February 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 4, 2012 Hello, KristyM79, Here are some places I like. I'll indicate where they are, because they're not all in the French Quarter. Café Maspero 601 Decatur St New Orleans, LA 70130 (504) 523-6250 In the French Quarter. Don't be daunted by the lines - they move quickly. Warning: They only take cash. Extremely budget-friendly. Acme Oyster House 724 Iberville St. New Orleans, LA 70130-2324 (504) 522-5973 http://www.acmeoyster.com In the French Quarter. Again, don't let the long lines scare you. Inexpensive (but more expensive than Cafe Maspero above). Domenica 123 Baronne Street New Orleans, LA 70112-2303 (504) 648-6020 http://domenicarestaurant.com In the Roosevelt New Orleans Hilton, which is NOT in the French Quarter. This is in the CBD (Central Business District). This places serves contemporary Italian. It is pricey and might be a good "special occasion" kind of place. Café Beignet 334-B Royal St. New Orleans, LA 70130-2281 (504) 524-5530 http://www.cafebeignet.com This French Quarter bakery/coffee shop has beignets that are just as good as Cafe Dumonde in a much less crowded setting. Inexpensive. Caution: this is a popular meeting spot for tours, and it can get kind of busy when a tour group is meeting there. Arnaud’s Remoulade 309 Bourbon St. New Orleans, LA 70130-2212 (504) 523-0377 http://www.remoulade.com In the French Quarter. This place is attached to Arnaud's and features the highlights of Arnaud's menu, especially the legendary Shrimp Arnaud. Be sure to check out the Germaine Cazenave Wells Mardi Gras Museum while you're there located inside Arnaud's. It is free and open to the public. Moderate. La Divina Café e Gelateria 621 St. Peter Street New Orleans, LA 70116 (504) 302-2692 http://www.ladivinagelateria.com This French Quarter serves great sandwiches and gelato. Try the muffalino! Inexpensive. Tujague’s Restaurant 823 Decatur St New Orleans, LA 70116-3302 (504) 525-8676 http://www.tujaguesrestaurant.com The second oldest operating restaurant in New Orleans. Located in the French Quarter. Try the mouthwatering beef brisket with creole sauce. Prix Fixe menu. It will make your head explode  (in a good way). I just called them a few minutes ago, and the Prix Fixe dinner is going for $39 to $46, depending on the entree. Pascal’s Manale 1838 Napoleon Avenue New Orleans, LA 70115-5540 (504) 895-4877 http://www.neworleansrestaurants.com/pascalsmanale This is in the Garden District but easily accessible by the St. Charles trolley. Pascal's invited BBQ shrimp and serves what I'd describe as classic Italian comfort food with an accent on seafood. Expensive. Have a great time on your trip. Leave your diet at home, but if you're in New Orleans AND about to go on a cruise, you don't care about calories! :D
