Dreamgirl Posted October 9, 2007 #151 Share Posted October 9, 2007 We're leaving this Thursday for our cruise on Monday. This board is so helpful ! I see the threads about what not to forget and what you would have left home, so what are your top 5 items that are an essential on the cruise? (Besides the obvious of clothes, personal hygiene, camera, sunscreen, etc.) I'm looking for those "oh yea!" items that would be helpful. :) Items that I find helpful are : solid air freshener for bathroom ( I don't have to explain why, do I ?? ) small bag for incidentals and at poolside ( for sunscreen, IPOD, book, Carnival Capers, etc. ) lanyard to hold sign and sail card medications ( including some you never usually use....such as IMMODIUM ! ) clock ( there is not a clock in the room ... you might want a travel alarm...I know, I know, it's vacation ) inexpensive wrist watch ( so that you get back to the ship on time, and to coordinate with your traveling partner where you will meet ... my husband and I don't use walkie talkies ) several pair of inexpensive sunglasses and flip flops.... if I bring only one, it usually breaks

cruisinCLT Posted October 11, 2007 #155 Share Posted October 11, 2007 here's one I didn't see that I always need to have on a cruise............an alarm clock. I hate waking up and not being able to see what time it is. Also I hate to have to count on the phone wake up call to work and my cell phone doesn't work for the alarm because I have no service
sundancer1 Posted October 12, 2007 #156 Share Posted October 12, 2007 On my last cruise I brought Glade Flameless candle. It is a deordorizer with a light that runs on batteries. It was perfect mood lighting for those romantic evenings. :)

Ipanema Posted September 23, 2008 #160 Share Posted September 23, 2008 Plastic dress and slacks hangers. A clothes hamper, I have one that rolls up and springs open with a wire frame and mesh sides. From the dollar store! Just need to bring change for the laundry room (or get it at the casino.) I like the battery operated candle idea, we have some and I'll bring them! hillcountry Posted September 23, 2008 #162 Share Posted September 23, 2008 Maybe someone already mentioned these, but here they are: * Over-the-door shoe holder. It's clear, and I stuffed each little pocket with everything from hair bands to earrings to DH's electric shaver for fast organization inside the closet. * Extra memory cards/batteries on your person at all times. We ran out of memory at a very crucial moment and by the time we ran back to our cabins, it was over. :( * Ziplock gallon sized baggies (for anything that might leak, etc.) * Favorite lotion/hair conditioner. * Bonine - just in case. ;) And for a sixth - a sense of humor!! :) Happy sailing!!! :)

Ooo la la ~ a plastic dress?? :p Is it clear plastic? Sorry! It's late and I cracked up when I saw that..... Flameless candles ~ what a great idea!!! I can't believe this thread is still going. I started it when I was going on our first cruise. Now we're looking ahead to our first back to back cruise in December AND our first balcony. I am definitely taking the advice of bringing some sort of music to listen to while we wallow away our time on the balcony. ;) Thanks for all the great suggestions. UKCruiser_2008 Posted September 24, 2008 #164 Share Posted September 24, 2008 I know the duct tape is useful for keeping the curtains closed, but what else do you use it for???
sunnylasvegas Posted September 25, 2008 #165 Share Posted September 25, 2008 LEEnH: Very IMPORTANT: bring Pepto Bismol, Immodium in case you get sick! DO NOT GO to the infirmary with a sick stomach. We have been told by people who were on ships with many sick that they can quarantine you to your cabin for 24 hours!
Go-Bucks! Posted September 25, 2008 #166 Share Posted September 25, 2008 I know the duct tape is useful for keeping the curtains closed, but what else do you use it for??? I've heard about taking duct tape many times, so I took it on my last 4 vacations and NEVER had a need for it! Not packing it anymore.

sunnylasvegas Posted September 25, 2008 #169 Share Posted September 25, 2008 Before we went on the Valor in 05/07, BF read online that the bartenders in the casino--and elsewhere---LOVE to get an extra $2 bill as tip. In the casino--even though they were already pre-tipped, they loved it. He had the servers come up to him with his preferred drink--before he even ordered it. Another great thing to remember is antiseptic hand-wash that you can carry in your purse-----for places like the bar we went to in St. Maarten---really fun place on Orient Beach---that had a toilet out back with no water and no paper towels. PS: we had to pay a $1 to use the outdoor toilet! Bring change!

dvdisney Posted September 26, 2008 #172 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Love this thread. It helped me on my first 2 cruises. We're ready to go again in December! 1--WATCH. We tend to use our cell phone as a clock, and on the ship, it wasn't dependable (no service), but I also didn't want to carry it around. We went to the gift shop and got a cute little rope/snap children's watch for $3.00 and it said Carnival and was a great little souvenier. Well we purchased another on our second cruise too. 2---Carabeener clip--we clip our wallet to belt loop, along with the watch above. 3---Insulated mug. Always time to get cold juice on Lido deck. Like with that 3am slice of pizza. 4---sweater or sweatshirt. The theater was always cold!!!! 5---LAUGHTER LOVE AND LIBATIONS!!!!
