Things to do without excursions

My family and I are going to Curacao in July and we wondered if there were things to do there without booking en excursion. Can we get to the beach on our own? Are the beaches near the ship? Is there shopping?

Hi- We have spent much time in Curacao and find Willemstad to be a place where there is plenty to do. Lots of historic sites in walking distance, restaurants, and many shops.

 

The last time we were there, we took a taxi up to Fort Nassau for the panoramic view of the harbor and then spent the afternoon walking around Willemstad.

 

The Avila Hotel is not far from the center of town and is a nice place with a bar and restaurants.
