Using ext device to watch movies....

We will be sailing on ROS soon and were hoping to load up the iPad with some movies/kids shows for the kids to watch in their room - I read somewhere that the external ports are disabled - has anyone been able to plug in a device to watch a show?

As far as I know the external ports on in cabin tv's are all disabled on all the ships. I know cameras won't work and the remote won't let you in to a menu to change the input.

They have been disabled on all RCI ships that I have been on.

 

For what it's worth, Princess allows you to hook up to their TVs on their ships.

Some people have reportedly been able to re-enable the ports using a universal remote brought from home. Maybe a search for 'universal remote' would produce some info.

There are apps available that enable your ipad as a universal remote, such as:

(I haven't tried this or any of the other universal remote apps for ipad, so this is just an example)

Ships that I've been on the old CRT TVs did not even have any external ports. Just cable input and that was inaccessible. Newer LCD TVs may have inputs (disabled). Even with cable only it may be possible to use an RF modulator if you can get to the connector on the TV. These usually allow viewing on channel 3 or 4.

The remotes don't have a function selection.

I have been able to use a DVD a few times in the past but all the TV are different from room to room.

Oh OK, I've read conflicting threads about universal remotes sometimes working and sometimes not working? I thought this process was going to be a lot easier than it actually seems to be :rolleyes:
