We were on the Sapphire(sister to Diamond) and the ship is beautiful and you will enjoy her. As for excursions and things to do in Alaska I would suggest that you go to the Ports of Call board to Alaska. There is a wealth of information there.

We were on the Diamond the same week last year. She is a beautiful ship and you will love her. Spend some time exploring the ship. We discovered places on the morning that we disembarked that we had not seen before. I have pictures of the ship at the link listed below.

As for things to see off the ship, take the trip into the Yukon from Skagway. The scenery is spectacular. Tracy Arm is wonderful too. Go up on deck early and see the sights. Then return to your cabin and warm up and view the scenery from your balcony. We had a great time and will be going back in just 3 1/2 weeks on the Coral.

Have a wonderful trip!

If offered, and you have a balcony (and it's not too cold), have the Tracy Arm balcony breakfast. It's great, reasonably priced and a most enjoyable way to see Tracy Arm. Just leave your balcony door open and listen to the naturalist's commentary over the TV.

We were on the Sapphire to Alaska. As someone else stated, don't miss the glacier viewing. We're not outdoorsy so we didn't do any of that type of excursion. We did take the bus trip in Skagway and really enjoyed the scenary (the guide/driver had to go far up to go above the fog but it was worth it). It parallels the train but you didn't breath in the train fumes. And took less time. We also walked around on our own, even followed a guide giving a tour of Skagway but it turned out to be free and ended up in a museum in which you can learn the history of the town.
