Formal night on a five day cruise???

Hi Everyone, This whole freestyle thing is confusing me much more than it probably should, but so does walking to my mailbox and back so what else is new icon_biggrin.gif. I understand that on every night the dress code is resort casual for the majority of the restaurants. Is there ever a formal night? If I don't want to bring formal wear will there be a place I can get the "formal food" without wearing the formal clothes? I don't have a problem dressing formally but this cruise will be just my 4 yr old and me and I want to keep things as low maintainance as possible. Thanks for any info and or advice anyone wants to offer.

Thanks. Since we don't have any at sea days I was getting confused. I much prefer table service to buffet, especially travelling with a four year old but it is nice to know I will still be able to get good food if I decide not to bring my "fancy" dress.

Dosi, one night (usually an at-sea day) one of the two main restaurants will be designated as the "formal" restaurant, but you can go to the other main restaurant, one of the alternative restaurants, or to the buffet. Have fun.

Do you receive the same food in the un-formal restaurant as you do in the formal restaurant?

dosi,

I think you are over thinking here. Go forth and enjoy...no need for formal werar to eat in a dining room even on a regular 7 day or longer.

I bet your 5 day won't have one anyway.

Not that it makes much difference to me, but what do MOST people wear on the "formal" night? I mean what percentage dress formal and of those, do they all go to the "formal" restaurant? Just wondering about our 4 nighter on POA when we have ports every day? As a"rule" are most Norwegian cruises less formal dress than RCCL or Celebrity, et.z/ It's been a LONG time since I sailed on Norwegian. And I will be on the POA June 7th. Just wondering and my daughter was also...

Hey Debbie--We will be on your sailing. I haven't sailed NCL before but I am guessing a nice party dress would be formal enough. Something you would wear to an evening wedding or out to dinner in a really nice restaurant. However from what I am gathering here you can get the same food in a less formal atmosphere. I usually really enjoy dressing up, but since it is just my son and I on this cruise I am trying to limit myself to one suitcase so I think I will skip the formal festivities this time. Looking forward to the cruise and meeting you.

Of course, one could always think in another fashion. Freestyle cruising also means that passengers can make every night formal night.

Though it is extremely unlikely that will occur, it is offered for consideration.
