pUnassigned cabin on Liberty

we have completely paid for a cabin of 4 on the Liberty, but Carnival says, we will be assigned a cabin on the ship, so does this mean, we wait till the 14th of April for cabin assignment. Thank you, John

Possibly. Just check your cruise profile on Carnival regulary. They may assign you at any time. At the latest, the porters at the terminal will have a list of pax with cabin assignments.

I'm guessing you booked a guarantee cabin of some sort. Normally, those cabin assignments are made about a month out... sometimes much later and rarely not until you reach the cruise terminal.

I've had a cabin assigned 117 days out and as late as 4 days out...

There's likely more. Carnival only shows 10 available cabins at a time. It's far more probable that you'll have your cabin assignment well before the cruise than getting it a the port...

Once assigned a room, can you switch to a different room of the same category by calling carnival?
