The Joy of the Interior Stateroom

Until recently, we always booked suites, as we love the extra space and amenities and we both smoke cigarettes.

I am traveling alone now and recently booked an inside, as it was more economical......great for sleeping, but also a bit depressing and small. I don't think I'd do it again, even if I have to pay more at double rate, as a solo for a balcony. I'm happy that HAL stills a private oasis for smokers.

Inconvenient, as well as another deciding factor, was having to trek to the casino or outdoors to smoke.

[SIZE="3"][FONT="Verdana"]My first two cruises were in Interiors.. Once as a solo & once after we were married.. But spent most of our time on deck & only used the cabin for sleeping, showering & dressing..

While sailing on our own boat for many months at a time, we both decided that we really enjoyed being close to the water & looking out of our boat windows or being on deck for sunup & sundown..

Since then we've only cruised in outsides.. We keep the curtains open so that when we get up during the night, we can see other boats or the water close by.. We love looking out our window at sunrise or sunset & when we come into a port in the early morning..:):)

Three times now we've booked an inside for the reasons the OP listed. The first time we ended up with a balcony that we didn't use. The second time we ended up with an "obstructed" view (that wasn't very obstructed at all). We had a wonderful time in each cabin, but I'm really looking forward to the DARK in the inside we have booked in August. In our home, all our bedroom windows are completely blacked out. We even cover our alarm clock with a towel so we don't have any light in our room. :)

I'm married to your twin evidently, we do the washcloth thing over the floor fan little blue light. :)

We have had a balcony cabin on our first two cruises but are doing an inside cabin for our upcoming Alaska cruise for several reasons

1) Need the dark cabin with the sun setting so late; have heard it never gets completely dark.

2) A balcony for Alaska is double what we paid for the Carribbean.

3) Possibility of cigarette smoke.

4) Don't believe it will be warm enough to enjoy breakfast on the balcony.

5) Know the ship has lots of viewing areas.

Does your spouse also need white noise?? It doesn't matter how cold the room A/C is, I still need a fan of some sort and COMPLETE darkness to sleep. LOL

So... for DH and I.... we love to cruise, but financially, if you can do two cruises a year in inside cabins vs. just one in a veranda, inside wins every time. Just need to adjust your viewpoint. Take your bottle of wine and sit on the promenade for sail away, and you can save enough bucks to take 2 cruises per year instead of one.... Win-Win!!!!

Yes, we not only like the movement of the air, but the noise as well. My wife was born in Hawaii so who knows.
