Hey everyone

 

A couple years back I was on the Dawn and wanted to withdrawl money from a cc. They were able to do this in the casino as a "purchase" and not a cash advance, so no fees involved.

 

Anyone know if they still do this and is it ship specific? I've only been on 1 cruise.

There is a fee to get money now in the casino, even if you are playing ....I believe it's 3%. :(

correct. This started over the past year.

 

Some have indicated this is not so on Europe trips though.

Do you know if they consider this a cash advance? 3% is not that bad... It's the 23% the cc charges. :confused:

There are two ways to do it. One is standard "cash advance", with the CC fees etc. The other is to take the cash against your on board account. There is a limit of $2000 per day, there is a 3% fee (except for Gold members - 40,000 points per year and not on European cruises), and there's a smaller limit per day ($500-$1000) before they have to take the time to call in for approval from the purser's desk (which can take a little time). This second type is not treated like a cash advance on your credit card - it becomes part of the entire balance charged to your card at the end of the sailing when they settle your account.

Yes, NCL still does this. You can get cash at the casino cage. The cash appears on your on board statement, so you will still be paying your CC company whatever your rate is for purchases, but not the usually higher rate charged by CC companies for a "cash advance."

 

NCL will also assess a fee of 3% for the service.

 

As Robin notes, there are daily limits to the amount you can "withdraw".
