What are the best handcrafted items in Nassau and where can one buy them? From what I understand the straw market isn't as good a bargain as it used to be.

What are the best handcrafted items in Nassau and where can one buy them? From what I understand the straw market isn't as good a bargain as it used to be.

 

Although the Straw Market may have a handful of real artisans (woodcarvings and some real straw), you will find most of the handcrafted items either in festival place (port terminal) or on the downtown sidewalks on the weekends.

 

Nassau has tile, ceramics, coconut and wood carvings and jewelry, beach glass jewelry, plaited mats, bags, vessels etc as well as blown glass jewlery, hairclips, paintings and photography. You can even purchase jams and jellies, hot sauces and spices.

 

Most people pick up some rum cake as well.. not a bargain, but they sure taste good. Nassau also makes a variety of flavored rums.

 

Some Souvenier shopsalong bay street also carry an array of handcrafted items. Including Androsia fabric, pareos, shirts and other items made from this local fabric.

And my husband needs more hot sauce, do they have good hot sauce?

Vanilla - no

Hot sauce - yes.. and many varieties.

 

Sauces, rubs, pepper jams.. you'll find it all downtown in the souvenier shops.
