teacherone Posted June 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2004 We can find a limo to take us to the pier but not to bring us back home since we get back on July 4. I know info about parking has been discussed many times before, but not thinking I would need it, I didn't bother to read it! I tried a search but it's still not working. So... What's the closest/easiest parking to the pier in NY? Thanks

shoreguy Posted June 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2004 You can park right on the pier. Cash only. smeyer418 Posted June 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2004 where do you live? I will be on the Crown with you if that is the ship you are on. You can always take a cab-its double the meter outside of NYC plus tolls they would love a trip like Try www.supershuttle.com or Carmel.... It depends on what deck you are on, whether your choice express and carry you bags off the ship, and how long it takes customs to clear the ship. gourmetgal Posted June 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2004 deepending where you are from there are very nice leisure busses you can take from the port authority to a spot near your home town. or from home to the port athority and then a cab to the pier. We did this for the last cruise, and are probably going to do it again. we are sailing on July 4 on the Dawn. and we took the bus from a stop in New Hope Pa near our home, I know it stops a few places in Nj as well such as Flemington. Yunker310 Posted June 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2004 We drove from Philly and parked at the pier two years ago and it was pretty convenient. On a Sunday morning, the traffic for Lincoln Tunnel is not too bad. You pull right up to the terminal, drop off your bags and park in a fenced lot right on the pier next to the ship. It was a little pricey (about $120. cash in advance) but then you're not paying for a limo. Good luck and have a great cruise.
Luanne Posted June 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2004 If you don't have to worry about airlines, I would stay in NYC overnight and have a reason to stay and watch fireworks! Then take the limo home the way you would like too. Luanne Norwegian Star June 20,2004
jeannep Posted June 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 11, 2004 We loved having our car on top of the pier when we returned from our Dawn cruise. When our color was called, we walked off the ship, picked up our luggage, walked to the exit and went up the escalator to the roof parking. There were many people waiting to get outside to find their rides but we just passed them by. We were in our car in less than 10 minutes. They do not have express disembarkment any more. They don't let you leave first if you are bringing your own luggage off. I suggest bringing your own car. It worked for us. Just remember!!!! The parking only takes cash. $168 for the week. Enjoy! teacherone Posted June 11, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted June 11, 2004 JeanneP, A few questions... I've read about traffic coming up to the pier. Is this the the case getting into the parking area? What time did you arrive? We live about 25 minutes out of NYC and were thinking of leaving home at about 10:30am. The pier website says they accept cash or Visa/MC. Has this changed to cash only? Finally, do you drop your bags off before you are able to park or do you bring them with you? Thanks for your help, and to everyone who has posted to this. smeyer418 Posted June 12, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2004 here is the pier website www.nypst.com they added VISA AND MASTERCARD FINALLY! MUST HAVE HAPPENED IN THE last few days. You can either drop your luggage off first or take it with you and bring it down yourself. The entrance to the parking level is at the far end(right) of all the cruise ship piers! yOU HAVE TO DRIVE RIGHT PAST WHERE THE LUGGAGE IS TAKEN BY THE PORTERS
shoreguy Posted June 12, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2004 smeyer418 I saw the mastercard/visa info on the site about 3 weeks ago. I was not sure it was new or if it was true. I will believe it when someone here posts that they could in fact use it at the pier. smeyer418 Posted June 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I wrote the mayor about this months ago and told him that the piers will never be world class if you had to pay cash for parking. He never responded but maybe someone was listening. I agree however that the word may not get down to the attendants... I was on a May cruise cash only!(Mother's Day)! Tomct Posted June 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2004 We've parked a the pier twice in the past year, and everytning went very smoothly. Drive in, drop passengers, drop off bundle of cash (credit card?), exit car for sniffing dog, park in secure area, escalaotor down to terminal, meet cruise mate(s), as your bags will already been checked in, and then await embarkation. We arrived at 11 am, and on board within an hour, enjoying a drimk and then lunch at Venetian. Tom/Connecticut
shirleygr Posted June 12, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I read somewhere here that when you debark, you have to leave your luggage at the curb, get your car, and drive around to pick up your bags and whoever waited with them. Is this right or can you take your luggage with you to the car and just drive out, as stated by a PP above? Thanks for the info! maracara Posted June 15, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 15, 2004 We just took our bags up the escalators and out the door to the parking lot. The escalators read something to the effect of "No luggage allowed" but everyone around us also had luggage. By experience I know this saved us around 30-45 minutes by getting us out and around the logjam in front of the docks.
shirleygr Posted June 15, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 15, 2004 Thanks, maracara. So there's no-one to stop you from bringing your bags on the escalators? maracara Posted June 16, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 16, 2004 The police did not seem to be enforcing the bags on the escalators at all. (Maybe others have had different experiences?) They were however busy making sure any bags on the floor belonged to someone. My guess is security is the priority over safety.
