LOCAL VILLAGE BAR vs. JACK'S SHACK Grand Turk

After reading some of these posts about Jack's Shack it sounds like Jack and his staff need to watch their p's and q's or they will loose lots of business to the Village Bar. They have competition now.

I got badly 'flamed' on the FB page for Jacks Shack, for daring to say I wasn't entirely happy there. I agree though, it's very easy for places to get complacent and with us cruisers relying heavily on the internet for recommendations and feedback, it's vital that places offer value for money, good service and a comfortable friendly environment.

We just got back earlier in january, when we went to GT we headed straight to the crew bar. Hung out with the owner for most of the day! She is awesome. Didn't half to pay for chairs, pool was great, food amazing. You must try the Conch Fritters, so good i got a second round right before we left! What an awesome place...All the drinks were great, beers a very reasonable price!

We are renting a golf cart to see the island...go to lighthouse. Do you know where the conch graveyard is? We also plan on grabbing a drink at Jacks Shack, Village Bar and now looks like Crew Bar may be another stopping place. Where is the Crew Bar? Will it be easy to spot? Is it near Jacks or Village? Thanks.

Crew bar is between pier and Village. It's easy to spot. It's just a beach with a line of bars.

nb, I'd return the golf cart prior to the bar crawl ;)

When you're walking off the ship down the pier (toward land) the conch graveyard will be to your right and the Carnival beach, The Crew Bar, The Local Village Bar, and Jack's Shack will be to your left (in that order).

I don't remember the Crew Bar last Spring, but looks like a place I will definitely hit. My sis and family will be there in April. Will recommend Crew Bar and Local Village before Jack's in a heartbeat.

Crew Bar was completed probably around October last... walk down the beach past Margaritaville, you'll see a beach massage sign, with massages for $20 for 15 minutes, right next to that is the Crew Bar. It is on the White Sands Beach Resort property so you can actually order food from the restaurant and get served at the crew bar...great spot for reasonable drinks and food.

How crowded does one get in comparision to another?

I've been there 3x in the past 2 years and IMHO I think Margaritaville is far and away the most crowded. Jack's and Local Village have been about the same...neither were too crowded. Actually the last time I would say Local Village Bar was more crowded maybe because it's a longer walk to Jack's. The Crew Bar is definitely the least crowded...probably since a lot of people aren't aware that it's there and that you can use their pool too. However, the Crew Bar is closest to the Carnival section of the beach so the "beach area" might be more crowded than if you kept walking further down the beach towards Local Village and Jack's. Lounges are free at M'ville, Crew Bar, and Local Village. There is a fee at Jack's.

You can get to them via the road. I know you have to exit the cruise center and go up the road to get to Jacks. Taxi's might take you. And Local Village is nearly next door. (Could be changing hands?). Margaritaville is accessible directly from the cruise center. For the pool and the bar, you don't have to go on the sand. Sidewalks and walkways. I'd venture that Crew Bar and the Casino could be reached like you reach Jacks, but there might be a walkway around MV.

Well, if LV isn't your ideal, Jack's is only a 2 minute stroll up the beach. You can take a look and then decide. but LV gets my vote:cool:

Do you remember how much the beer was at LV and what was the loud music that was playing was there anyway to get away from that and still be on the beach? Also no costs for chairs? Sorry for all the questions but I am not down with 8.00 drinks on shore most days lol

A fee at Jack's that must be new I was there in Oct 2012 and sat out at the bar and had a couple of drinks and nothing was ever said or paid as far as a fee goes.. Still love Jack's and would go back!!

The fee is to rent a lounge. At all other bars the lounges are free.

Has anyone just returned recently and know if the Local Village is open or not? Will be leaving in 1 week and I have seen people saying it is closed and was just wondering if by any chance it is open now as we would like to go to it. Thanks.

I was hoping to head out to the Crew bar this November - usually go to Jack's but wanted to try something different - but recently heard it was 'not operational' and the pool was closed? (but the resort still open??)

Wondering if any recent cruisers have any info on the status of the Crew Bar? thanks :)

Froufie...

I know that Local Village is in the middle of changing owners and closed. May be reopened now. Haven seen anything here on Crew Bar though.

This was posted on another thread:

I was back in GT again the last week in May. The Crew Bar was closed and the pool was no longer being used. It was covered in green algae and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in months. I was very disappointed as this was our fave bar in GT based on our previous stops. The Local Village Bar was also not the same. The owner was there and opened but there was no liquor of any kind and the beer was skunked. It appeared that the place was not fully operational yet, as I had read it was closed for a while. However, if you look at the pic below, the bar to the far right (the round one with orange roof) was open and it was fantastic. I don't know the name of it but it is owned by the White Sands Resort (same people that owned the Crew Bar). Great music and very friendly. We ate poutine and conch and both were very good! FYI: This will be the very first bar you past after the Carnival section of the beach.

That was back in May so I am hoping someone who has been there more recently is able to comment on the status of the Crew Bar!

Thanks so much for this update!!! Will be stopping there in November and I have convinced my group of friends to visit there - and I would hate to find it skanky and not operational! Great news!!! :) (do you have any recent pics?)
