eddie Posted May 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Can anyone help me with this question: What is the normal percentage of the fare as a tip for a driver of a car we have hired to take us from Heathrow to London? Any help would be appreciated
Nickwolf Posted May 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2005 Eddie, there are no hard and fast rules but a tip of around 10% for good service would probably be about right. Nick.
Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted May 5, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2005 Eddie, there are no hard and fast rules but a tip of around 10% for good service would probably be about right. Nick. Nick, would you also recommend that amount if we have a car service picking us up?
Nickwolf Posted May 5, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2005 I would say that 10% is appropriate in any situation where you want to tip someone. Just remember that in the UK people don't rely on tips for a living so you should not feel that you have to tip anyone for just normal service. It is normal to tip taxi drivers and waiters/waitresses though. I am not sure if I am making it clearer for you or not but I hope it is helpful. Nick. T-sip Posted July 8, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2005 What percentage would be considered a nice tip for a waiter who has given good service? Is the tip usually added to the bill automatically, or is it included in the price, or is it an amount added by the diner (at the diner's discretion)? Nickwolf Posted July 8, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2005 T-sip 10% would be ok normally for good service. In some cases you find that the tip will be automatically added, if it is it should be clearly shown as a seperate item on the bill. If it is automatically added it is still at your discretion and if you are not happy you can reduce it or remove it all together. Nick.
