What size is cruise pass?

Recommended Posts

The purpose of a passport is to allow you to enter and exit a foreign country and to re-enter the US from a foreign country. If something happens to you in a foreign country and/ or you miss the ship, try explaining to the local customs officials that it will be ok to let you fly to the US or to the next port with that photocopy. I do not mean to sound rude, but if you are not going to take the passport off the boat, then why buy it in the first place? You can board the boat with just a birth certificate and photo id. You absolutely will not be able to fly to or from a foreign country without the passport. The boat is not going to deliver it to you in the hospital if you are injured, and you could be in for a long wait for some help getting a new one from the nearest consulate.

The OP is Canadian. They'll need a passport no matter what, or they're not even making it to the embarkation port ;)

I will pack our passports, sea pass, drivers license and a watch (which will be put inside while swimming).

Found a product at a hikers shop near us for $17.99. Will go and have a look for size. Also, saw the same product on ebay for $11.99.

It has a lanyard, the case is hard with foam/rubber inside which is colored as case is clear. There is a reverse pressure valve or something like that so it guarantees 100% waterproof. It also floats.

I think for the money it is worth it, rather than trying to hide our important documents on the beach chair.

I would never take my passport off the ship. The chances of it getting lost or stolen are much higher than the chances of me missing the ship and needing to fly home. My passport goes in the safe on day 1 and that's where it stays until I debark.

I'm looking into a passport card though. Something like that I would take off the ship. The actual passport? Absolutely not.

I agree with you New York. :) We had a copy of our PP laminated. The front 2 pages, with your photo and pp#.

You do not need a passport to get back on the ship but when I'm in a foreign country I carry our passports.

You will find different opinions. We never go to a foreign port or country without our passport.

We don't drink a lot so we're not worried about missing the ship. However, accidents are never planned so the passport stays with us!!

I have never read about someone losing or having a passport stolen while in port.

Ok thats 2 seperate opinions on the passport thing.

Can I have some tie breaker opinions. Like I said I am a newbie.

You don't need a passport to sail a closed loop cruise. You do not need a passport off the ship or to get on the ship. This is not an opinion but a fact. However, the answer to you question is very simple. A passport that is not in your possession when you need it is no good. Photo copies are the same as not having it. So whether you want to carry it or not, is your own personal choice, and no need to ask an opinion.

You do if you are not a US citizen. Again, the OP is Canadian. She'll need a passport just to get into the US to take the cruise in the first place.

OP, glad you found a solution. Sounds like a good plan! Enjoy your first cruise :)

A passport is to show your own government when you return to the "land of the free" so you can have their permission to reenter your own country. Ooh, lucky you. Other than that, nobody cares about your passport. The exact opposite of what a passport originally was. Welcome to Amerikka.

So you dont need it on the islands, but if you get separated from it, you have a big hassle trying to get home. I'm in the leave-it-on-the-ship camp, but I see the other side's point.

You won't find a tie-breaker I'm afraid. Some take their passports with them, some leave them on the ship. Just personal preference.

Size of a credit card. We had a hole punched in ours at the Casino and used lanyards to have them with us at all times. You can get holes punched at Guest Services as well. For ports, all you need to bring is your S&S card and a valid picture ID. We left passports and other valuables in our safe during port stops and only brought our S&S and driver's licenses. You only need your passport to show proof of US citizenship when returning to your home port, in our case that was NYC.

Look up Pelican on ebay. You will be able to see what they look like there. Some have clips attached and some have lanyards. I think we will go with the lanyard around the neck. They float anyway and I am sure you can short the lanyard to a comfort length - or even attach a preferred one.

I personally think this is the best solution, worry free.

When going to the beach or snorkeling, I use an Aquapac Key holder. It is big enough for your sial and sign card, a picture id, a credit card and come with a cord so you can hang it around your neck. Just be careful nothing sticks out as that breaks the waterproof seal.

Since OP is from Canada, they may have different issues. However, for Americans, I think taking PP with you, off the ship, makes the most sense. Leave your driver's license (unless you need it to rent a car, etc.) and your birth certificate in the safe on the ship.

If you lose your PP or it's stolen while ashore, you will be able to return to the US with your birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. If you miss the ship, you have your passport and have access to international air travel to chase the ship to the next port, or return home.

The only problem with this is the oversize passport book, which doesn't fit comfortably into most wallets, etc. But other than that, I don't see any flaws in this strategy.

Hi I am trying to buy a water proof wallet to put my cruise pass in and photo copy of passport while swimming in port.

Can someone please tell me the measurement in inches of a cruise pass on carnival freedom?

Thanks

The sign and sail cards are 3.370 in x 2.125 in exactly.

I believe the reason many take copies of their pp with them is the idea that all the important information is on it and if they need to get a replacement it would expediate the process. For us sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, depends on the country. We are used to having ours with us because we live within walking distance of the US border and often go over there to shop.
