1stcruze Posted June 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2004 I noticed the Norwegian Spirit will be going to Alaska and then to San Francisco as a repo. cruise. Since I live in Northern CA that seems great & the price is extremely low. However, the cruise doesn't leave Vancouver until Sept. 26th (or somewhere around there) goes through the inside passage, hits the main Alaska ports, back through the inside passage, stops in Eureka, then on to San Francisco. I just took a pacific coastal cruise on the Coral princess, so I'm anxious for another cruise but I'm concerned based on what I've heard about the Norwegian line, and the time of year, that booking this could be a huge mistake. Any comments that can help me out???
mbisson Posted June 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Everything I've heard about the Star for quite a while has been good. Late Sept you won't have nearly the crowds to contend with in ports. I'd go for it. -Monte some of my cruising photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/m1bisson A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good. cruiseone2003 Posted June 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Hello 1stcruze, I just booked myself on the 25Sep sailing Vancouver to SF, you are right the price is right but I just discovered there will not be any shore excursions offered by NCL. I usually don't take the ship excursions but I am wondering if there will be anything to do in the Alaskan ports? Maybe I need to do some online searching and come up with my own exucrsions? sodell Posted June 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2004 I threw a similar question out a while ago. I was considering this repo also. I decided on the Sun repo, instead. You may want to note the hours in port. Have a great time!!! I's under open topic... ask a cruise question. TxLnghrnz Posted June 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2004 I went on the "last cruise of the season" two years ago... It was a blast -- all of the shops in the different ports were having HUGE sales. Basically, the last chance for the tourist dollar for 6 months! There were no crowds...and we booked independant excursions (Captain Larry's Whale Watch in Juneau, the train in Skagway, etc.) I've done Alaska cruises 3 times -- early season, in the middle of the season, and this cruise. It was my favorite -- less expensive cabin rate, plus sales all along the way!
ilinda Posted June 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2004 Hey TxLnghrnz how cold was it when you went? How much extra clothing are you packing? I want to do Alaska next year and Sept is a great time for me to go but I am worried I may freeze..I live in Phoenix, Arizona so you will note I am liking the heat. Thanks Linda Norwegian Sea for the Fall! cruiseone2003 Posted June 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 22, 2004 Hello out there, regarding the Spirit's last sailing from Vancouver to San Francisco, The weather still shouldn't be that cold (I have been to Alaska in July and it was cold at times) we will probably be the only ship in port, a plus for me! NCL will not be offering shore excursions but I did find a company that can set up excursions similar to those offered by NCL. If anyone is interested in that info, send me an email to : Cochiti01@Earthlink.net NCL Spirit 25SEP, 2004 Pride of ALoha 6/2004 Sun Princess 5/2004 Monarch of the Seas 17Nov/2003 Summit 26Sep/2003 SS Jeremiah O'Brien 8/2003 Monarch of the Seas 6/2003 Coral Princess 5/2003 Mercury 4/2003 Majesty of the Seas 2/2003 Radiance of the Seas 10/2002 Grandeur of the Seas 9/2002 Radiance of the Seas 10/2001 Viking Serenade 2/2001 NCL Seaward 10/1993 NCL Spirit, 25September, 2004 1800hours
