CMM Posted May 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2012 We are looking at balcony cabin options on the Pride. Mid ship decks 6-8. Will these cabins offer some shade? The carnival rep said all of the balconies are shaded, on all decks which I find hard to believe. We burn easily so would enjoy a covered or shaded balcony and any insight would be helpful. Thank you!
RyanDMB99@aol.com Posted May 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2012 All balconies (except very rear of ship) have A roof (because u have a balcony above you as well. So as far as shade goes its based on the angle of the sun and time of day.
KPfromCT Posted May 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2012 We were on the Pride a couple of weeks ago...:(. Oh, sorry. Lol. Deck 8, which was Panorama, cabins 8228 & 8230, and we always had shade. Love the sun, but only when I'm by a pool:D
wrigley80 Posted May 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Shade on balconies is quite limited unless you have an aft balcony
LandlockedCruiser01 Posted May 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2012 You can rely on the (false) etymology of the word "posh": it's supposedly a former acronym that meant "port out, startboard home". When ships sailed from Britain to India and back, the most expensive cabins weren't aft balcony suites, but ones located on the port side when heading out, and on the starboard side when heading back. Why? Because those cabins were located on the shaded side of the ship during most of its route, and didn't heat up as much during the day as the "non-posh" ones. For your cruise, look at the map of your ship's itinerary. In most of the northern hemisphere, the sun travel from east to west, following a path in the southern half of the sky. The highest angle depends on the latitude and the season. So look at the map, and find out which side of the ship the sun is going to shine on for most of the itinerary as it moves between ports. Book a cabin on the opposite side.
