beach in belize

i there a clean, safe beach that one could visit while in Belize for the day? I'd like to spend a few hrs at the beach, then a few hours shopping. If there is a beach, please tell me if the waters are calm or rough, and if there is snorkeling, and how much a cab ride to the beach would be?

There's no beach in Belize City, but my research of Caye Caulker sounds like it might be just what you're looking for! Take the water taxi to Caye Caulker for the water fun... I believe there's shopping at Caye Caulker, plus at the Tourist Village right at the port.

is the water taxi reliable re: getting back to ship on time?

Yeah, don't waste any time in Belize City - Take a water taxi to Caye Caulker (less touristy) or Ambergris Caye (a little further, more touristy). Check the taxi schedules... I think they are pretty reliable and have several taxis running like maybe every 30 mins? I didn't go on a cruise, but did spend a day in Ambergris Caye.
