Cruise Leprechaun Posted May 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2012 We are going to be on the Liberty of the Seas next month cruising Spain, France and Italy. And while we have cruised extensively on North American routes, I was wondering if we will notice much different on board (I know I am on my own when it comes to being out and about in these countries) when it comes to: Languages: Will the cruises compasses, announcements and staff still be in, speaking English primarily? Embarking ande Disembarking in Barcelona speaking English? Currency: I know I'll need Euros on land but for instance the casino chips or buying drinks or paying for specialty restaurants - is that all still based on dollars? While I am at it can I convert money to Euros somewhere on board? Time Zones - from what I can tell everything from Barcelona to Rome and Naples seem to be on the same time zone (NY +6) so all times quoted for docking and leaving will just be the local time? Just curious if there will be any unforseen issues with this. Thanks.
nchusker Posted May 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2012 We just got back from a med cruise on the serenade. Everything on the ship is u.s. dollars. The cruise compass etc. is english. They have them in other languages as well. You can get euros on the ship but don't know the exchange rate. We got them before we left the states. When getting on and off the ship always use ship time. local time might be different. Have a great time and take lots of pictures.
tahqa Posted May 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2012 Cruise compasses, announcements, etc will be primarily in English. There may be occasional announcement that are only for Spanish speakers (for example) but all the important announcements will be in multiple languages with English announcements first. Ship currency and pricing will be in American Dollars. Casino currency is American Dollars. Guest services will be able to do conversion to and from Euro, but the exchange rate is poor. Pretty much one time zone for continental Western Europe so there shouldn't be any time issues. Just stay on ship time and you'll be fine.
